Advice re roads and snowy stuff please

I'm planning on coming up next week with my lads on their DRZ 400SMs. Hopefully staying at Kinlochleven first night.
Day 2 Corran ferry, Salen and Ardnamurchan point, back to base via Glenuig and Lochailort.
Day 2 will be to Fort William and Mallaig, over the sea to Skye, loop of the island staying at Carbost.
Day 3 will be to Lochcarron, Applecross pass and round the coast to Sheildaig, then back to Kinlochleven before heading off home the following day.

I'd normally just do it on my own, but with my lads in tow and given the weather of last week, I thought I'd ask first...do you folks know if these routes are blocked or passable ?

Hopefully next week it will warm up a bit

Some of the West Coast has escaped much of the snow this winter. You do know that the Sonachan Hotel on the road between Kilchoan and the Ardnamurchan Point lighthouse has a bunkhouse and a nice wee bistro bar, don't you. You might want to consider staying there and you could phone them in advance to ask about the weather and the state of the road from Salen to Kilchoan - great road, I love it...! :D

Stopped there, great place, and the road to / from it is something special where it hasn't been "improved".
 
Looking good so far then, I was a bit worried some of the area may have been snow-hit like Arran has been :eek:

Never been to Ardnamurchan point before (well not from the land anyway) so looking forward to that; I've just googled the bunkhouse at Sonachan...looks like I may stay there next time, or modify day 2 to included Mull and stay there...so thanks for that tip...:thumb

9deg C on Skye today the weatherman just said...that'll do nicely :thumb

... and fires will help warm up the tarmac too :D
 
Hope its dry...I'm staying between Spean Bridge and F.W. from tomorrow for a week....have to say I'm sick of bleeding snow this year... I can't get around to lamp...lambing etc...the snow is up to the top of the dykes still, with drifts on the hill roads.

Funny you say that, I watched it last week and said I was going to find the place and the house next time I was up that way so I goodled it only to find out the Skyfall house was built down south specially for the film :tears:tears
 
No real snow below about 1k feet around Fort Bill.
Temp is regularly below freezing before 10 and after 8 though.
I’ve been over to Inverness this week, roads are fine, no snow anywhere to speak of. Been down to Glasgow as well, my car is manky with all the salt on the roads, plenty deer about early in the morning between the Kings house and the black mount. (Between the two steel bridges.)
The temperature struggled to get above 3 c over Rannoch Moor down through Glencoe.
Bonny looking out from a nice warm car with clear blue skys and snow covered peeks. Forecast says wed/Thursday its going to be a wee bit cloudy around the Fort. :D Thats tropical for us.

Arisaig

Camping just northof Arisaig this weekend and it's glorious.
Walked for miles this morning and a nice lunch of peppered prawns, chips and salad at The Old Library in Arisaig.
Forecast great for tomorrow and roads dry as a bone with little salt though it's cold at night with a slight frost in the morning.
Scotland at it's best and Skye looks spectacular with the top 1000 ft on the Cullin and Blaven with snow. Magic.

Trailer loaded up and ready to hit the road tomorrow morning, one boy has cancelled as it's too cold for him.

Was out by Oban and then up to Fort William an loch carron then back through Glen Coe over the weekend with no problems what so ever. The snowline was all higher up with only the odd patch on the verge. Other than it being a bit chilly it was perfect weather.
