I've never used an intercom previously, but have decided to get one...and have no idea where to start to be honest.

basic criteria:

Want it connect it to my iPhone 4 for calls/music.
Only needs to be linked to me, no pillion/etc.
I want to limit outside noise/interference.

Anyone offer suggestions and advice?

Scala Rider G4.
Great piece of kit, been using one for quite a while now, I have the iPhone paired in through my satnav, works a treat.

I purchased a Scala Solo but in hindsight I think I should have gone G4 as then I would've had the opportunity to link to other riders or pillion later on. But for what I have, Iphone and Iphone SatNav and Ipod, it works an absolute treat.

Only downside I have found is fitting it to my Spada DS helmet; need to find some longer bolts as fitting bracket doesnt fit properly.

I use an Interphone F4, which is a great bit of kit. The new F5 is out now, so there are some good deals on the F4.:thumb

Big fan of wired systems myself (Autocom) Music perfectly listenable to beyond a ton (with earplugs in) nothing to charge and impossible to leave in a Hotel Room / Cafe / Petrol Station.

I know some guys hate the inconvenience of spending upwards of 2 seconds attaching the cable when getting on the bike, but I am very patient and can put up with this, and prefer it to hours spent charging batteries, trying to get Bluetooth to connect etc.

Ttry Sam at Chainspeed, he sells a wide range of comms gear and has tried it all for himself, reasonable prices, professional (and honest) advice and good aftersales service.

For a wired system how about this bargain

Starcom and Autocom are the same co and have made this stuff for years.I know you only wish to connect your phone but this is capable of taking sat nav, volume controller, bike to bike radio which is something you might want later.I have this kit and I paid a lot more than this fellah seems to be getting.

I would think that a Scala G4 is a bit over the top - unless you are preparing for the future, when you may have the comms requirement.

As mentioned - a Starcom unit would do the job, and (if bought S/H) could possibly be sold on at a later date without much loss of capital?

Couldn't agree more :bow

Me too
Sound quality is amazing and, like starcom, plenty of bargains about. Once you have it, you'll soon be wanting to add more, so buy something that is expandable.

As Bumpy said, speak to Sam at chainspeed. Very knowledgable and will only sell you some thing that will fit your needs, and they deal with several manufacturers.

I've just switched from an Autom to a Bluetoorth Senna SMH10 system abd it's brilliant - much better sound quality and no wires to disconnect/reconnect everytime the Mrs jumps off/on after opening gates in the Dales :D

I have Zumo and Puxing 777 into an Autocom.
Works very well.

Whatever you do, fit a Push To Talk (PTT) switch.
The automatic VOX systems are a royal pain.

Whilst at a show a couple of years ago, a mate and myself had a play around with a pair of helmets with a built in blue-tooth system that linked to each other and to phones, sat-navs etc. Was quite impressed by how clear they were. Don't know how much they'd be affected by wind noise when riding, as we were just stood by the stall playing with them. Also wonder how long a life the rechargeable batteries would have. Can't remember the make, or even if they're out there on the general market, but no doubt someone out there has more info or experience of them.

They weren't that expensive either.
