Not really sure
People, I would appreciate a bit of help, if you will. the computer system I work on at work uses Microsoft systems, NT, I think. It uses Microsoft Word to deal with the usual reports, etc.

Now, I frequently have a need to work at home, either on my own computer or a laptop, both of which have Windows XP home edition as the operating system.
The problem is that when I type up reports etc, the laptop does them as a .wps file, which the work system will not read. For example, today I e-mailed some documents from home to work. Opened the files on the work system, unreadable, unintelligable gobbledy-gook.

I hope this aint a stupid question, but I would appreaciate a bit of guidance as to why this is so, and ghow I can get around it, perhaps. As I said, I am a bit of a numpty past a certain stage with komputas.

Thanks in anticipation:thumb2

I'm surprised Word doesn't open Microsoft Works (.wps) files. have you tried selecting MS Works as the file type in the drop-down box when opening the document in Word?

The alternative is to save your home files in Word (.doc) format in Works.

Or download the Works to Word converter here

Cheers, Steve.

No, the job computer will open the document, but, as I say, it shows all sorts of wierd and wonderful characters. I have tried to save the .wps document to the job computer, but it is not successful.

With reference to the download you suggest, is it the case that I can download it onto my home computer, and convert the documents on that, prior to then e-mailing them to work? Does that make sense?
