I've been offered the bike for £1500 but know very little (read nowt) about them. It's pretty tatty around the edges with 50K on the clock. Some receipts, mot's and service history and comes with panniers and frames.

Does £1500 sound reasonable for a bike of that age and description? Could anyone give me an idea of what to check/look out for on it, as I'm going to look at it again before buying.

It sounds cheap to me, but it must be cheap for a reason!

Cheers

1100

Good machine only just run in don't think the price will get much better check tyres and especially rear pads and the disc the inside being the pad and part of disc to check.

Mine's an M with 85K.

Just check consumables, pads, discs, tyres, etc, also front brake lines from lever to union, hell, check all brake lines, won't hurt.

Other than that, unless it's been tampered with, i.e. different pipe, auxillary electrics installed badly, it should be sweet as a nut.

It's an 1100, some say they're bullet proof you know. :)

Maybe check the gearbox. I've had a '95 box on mine, curently stripped down to replace the tapered roller bearings on the input shaft.

I ran it one day to warm it up to change the oils; no problem. After filling with new oil, I fired her up, and the gearbox sounded like a bag of spanners. No idea why it happened so suddenly.

Put it on the centre stand, fire it up and just operate the clutch. Standing next to the machine, there shouldn't be any noticable difference in noise from the box. aybe try it in first as well, though selecting a gear didn't make any difference either way to mine. It wasn't a major problem as such; I did another 45k on her until the box started making some different noises last year. Then I took it off. The T/R bearing at the rear end of the input shaft was, er, shafted.

If it does make any noticable noises when the clutch is engaged, I might be wary.

uggs was same, now fitted with 99 box,was jumpin in and out of 3rd gear, give it a long test ride, if box is ok, itl be a good un

Just buy it,it's worth that in parts if you break it for spares.Where's the bike located,I'm down in pershor on Monday,so could meet you to have a look on my way back home if that's any use to you.

And if you don`t want it, let me know where it is.........:thumb

Thanks for all the replies chaps. Didn't get to see it yesterday and far too hungover to go out today....:blast

I'm going to try to get over and see it this week but our money pit (barn conversion) is getting close to completion, so I need to be on site all week.

I reckon it can't be too wrong at £1500 even if it does need a bit of cash spending on it.

Cheers

Dan
