I have managed to convert one of my best friends to the GS. He's about to buy and has a choice of '14, '65 and '16 plate. Apart from things like keyless and gearshift, would there be anything else missing out of the spec for the earlier bike? They're all TE spec.

Tell him to get the newest he can afford.

Keyless and Gear Shift Assist sound like the variables. TE is currently fully loaded except for an alarm or lowered.

I love it.

Get one that has the latest gearbox upgrades, it is a vast improvement, don't worry about any extra trinkets.

Early LC's had lighter flywheel and issues with the heated grips not being hot enough.

GSA's had the heavier flywheel from their introduction but I'm not sure when they changed them on the GS.

Statement of the obvious alert - the newest one also has the longest warranty.

That's something I'd consider when comparing the prices.

That's a fair point. Wasn't sure from the OP where they were thinking of getting the bike.

Anyone that slags off GSAP or Keyless simply doesn't have it and hates that they don't have it.

Having ridden a 2013, 2014 and 2016 I can honestly say they are all the same. Tell him to get the cheapest or best condition and don't buy into the buy new bollocks

I agree but newer the better for the same £££ would be best..
I'm on a late 2013 GS LC & it'll take some beating by anyone, including the latest BMW as they don't seem to be much of an improvement over an already great machine..!

Exactly. Some people still don't know how to use it properly though.

Feels like lifting a brick for me some of the time. Money better spent on other things.
1>2 forget it.
2>3 clunkier thank using the clutch.
3>4 works sometimes.
4>5 not bad.
5>6 great.

There are times when the lever is rock solid, won't move at all.

Like many say. My 17 GSA is different. Smoother gearbox. Although I don't know what they've done. But definitely a noticeable difference.
