right been looking at the throttle body's today and noticed there was no blue paint on the throttle stop screws so i think its been messed with.

what would happen if its been messed with. and the settings incorrect ?

and whats the best way to set them back up correctly

This is one of those questions that sets everyone off with widely differing opinions. To be frank, if you don't know what difference it makes then you probably aren't ideally placed to start fiddling around with things. If the bike runs ok then leave it alone. To answer your question, if they're not set up correctly, the throttle response at, and just above, idle are the first things you'd notice. Bear in mind that the 1150 is fairly crude at the best of times so don't expect perfect fuelling under all conditions.

There are a host of small problems related to starting, idle and just off idle performance that occur when the TOS and throttle stops are set incorrectly.

Zero Zero Sorry its over complicated and tedious

If you want the Best tune up ever??....Then CAREFULLY and Methodically :-

Set rocker end float .... (I "usually" go for 0.15mm)

Then Valve clearances......( I use a pair of feeler gauges setting each pair of valves at the same time Inlet = 0.15mm and the Exhaust = 0.3mm)

Then Check the Throttle Position sensor (using a good voltmeter) and set to around ~ 0.380 volts

Whilst at this stage take out and clean the big brass screws on the throttle bodies clean off the black goo and refit all the way in ( N.B. don't force them! Just until they bottom out) and back out 2 turns (use VERY slight amount of Rubber grease on the start of the thread and give the O ring a smear of it!)

Then refit everything and start up (IF AT THIS STAGE the idle is more than 1250 rpm with the fast idle control off? screw in each big brass screw quarter of a turn each and keep going until you get around 1000 rpm tickover) and go for a test ride for 15 to 20 mins until up to working temperature i.e. usually 5 bars on gauge

Have balance gauges and the big screwdriver ready for when you get back

Stop ~ switch off motor ~ Fit the balance gauges and screw the Big Brass screws in all the way, AGAIN dont force them! Just until they bottom out

Start the bike and see where the balance sits.

Do Not Adjust the left side cable if you have to adjust the throttle cable balance adjust only using the barrel nut on the cable

Once you have the twist balance set then back out the big brass screws until you get app 1050rpm + or - 50 rpm @ 5 bars on the temp gauge

Yep, this is pretty good
I stripped both my TB's down and installed a kit from Bing USA for the worn shafts.
Setting the TPS voltage made a HUGE difference, smoother and more get up and go.
Its not hard - but I dont know your mechanical ability.
There is quite a lot of write up on it, here and ADV
note that the zero = zero is different between the 1100 and the 1150

Zero zero is a fuck up waiting to happen. I made the mistake of messing with the wrong screw and although I got the bike running well enough I never had the confidence to say it was right until I replaced the throttle bodies. Keep well away unless you can test the flow through each throttle body.

I have to disagree with this, my TPS stop screw had rattled loose so I had no option other than to start from 'scratch' and reset everything back to factory, only difference being that I followed Roger 04 RTs advice and set it to zero = 250. I'm now getting 52.3 average mpg while 2 up touring and carrying full camping / cooking kit and I don't hang about or molly coddle the bike by any means! Minus camping kit but still carrying a lightweight pillion the bike will accelerate wheelie in 2nd gear which ain't bad for a 53k mileage GS :D

so what did you reset just the tps

2nd gear wheelie off the throttle? on a GS..............:D Give over with ya bullshit :D

Is this your 'lightweight' passenger?

My petite passenger is 7.5 stone and I am 11.5 stone...and it ain't bullshit, maybe your bike needs a bit of a tune up then

so what did you reset just the tps

I had to reset the throttle stop screws (zero=250) as the LHS had vibrated loose and idle was all over the place, then reset the TPS and balance properly.
As suggested, don't do it unless you really have to but if it is necessary it's pretty simple overall.

OK then, we'll let the collective decide whether your 2nd gear power wheelies are bullshit or not :bow:bow:bow

Maybe I just got a good one...GSA as well
