Advise on Tool Cabinets/Chests (are Halfrauds ones any good)

As per title really
My Mrs has promised me a decent (not silly money) tool chest box thingy and have been looking at the ones on offer at Halfrauds which look good value for roller bearing jobs, any views welcomed or other recommendations. They are giving away a top chest with two different cabinets which seems too good to be true...is it??

She doesn't want to spend more than £400 max:blast so The 'known' brands like Snap off and Feck am seem to be out

You get what you pay for, track down your local snapon dealer,they are offering deals on new boxes all the time, loads of good secondhand ones available, i got a huge one in as new condition for £650 worth a try, quality is second to none IMHO

How high quality does a stack of drawers for holding some tools in need to be? :nenau

I would think you can get that standard without spending £650 on what is effectively a box.
 
had halfords ones, they last ok, well mine has, and if its got the same guarantee as the tools,lifetime,, its as good as snap offs, with less argueing

The Halfords ones look more than up to the job tbh. It's not like you are going to be using it all day every day is it? I can't see why anyone who isn't a professional mechanic would pay out big money for a tool cabinet tbh. Certainly won't hold their tools any better than a cheaper one, and if you aren't opening the drawers all the time it won't really matter if they aren't quite as smooth opening...

If you know anyone who is a mechanic they can get the boxes trade price for you.

Ah, didn't know it was a special offer. Point stands otherwise tho. Deffo worth getting a mate in the trade to buy stuff for you when kitting out a garage.
 
depends how often you use it if your a professional in and out of the draws hundreds of times a day then no to halfords one go for a snapon if not its fine:thumb2

Even then, do you really need your drawers to be that little bit smoother opening than the best Halfords sell? :nenau

Or do you just want to be a logo snob?

I've got a mixture of Snap-on, Sealey and Halfords Pro.

The oldest Halfords Pro I have is 5 years old and been used a fair bit. The Snap-on I've had a lot longer and used to be fitted in a works van.

I don't think that the Halfords stuff would have stood-up the life that the Snap-on box has had but now that they're all stationary in my garage, I'd buy more Halfords stuff if I needed it.

The only real downside to the Halfords ones, is that the drawers don't come out the way the Snap-on ones do.

If you will be rolling the cabinet about your garage a lot, then the base unit needs to be the best that you can afford really (I've built mine into my work bench, so that's not an issue).
 
I got a Sealey AP2509B from e-bay at the start of the year. It only has to sit on my workbench or in the back of my car and works fine for me. I think its on e-bay for about £90-100 delivered. Mine was ordered from a shop site but came direct from Sealey about 30% cheaper. Like most you pay your money and take your chances.
