Advise please - tyres on road verses off road

Well, I've got a new set of Tourance fitted today £158 +VAT for the pair fitted to loose wheels, not sure how that rates, but the guy seems to offer a really good service and only makes £15 per tyre (£10 in my case as he miss quoted)

Elliott Motorcycles in Cricklade.

Note sure if these are the new or the old Tourance but will see how I get on with them...

Still dont think the bike looks as good as with the TKCs though :D

:D excellent, this was more like the kind of reply I expected to get, thanks for not letting me down ;)

Actually I'd PMed Steptoe to suggest he could delete the thread as I'd pretty much answered my own question... Tourance/Battlewings are the way to go in the winter, save the TKCs for the dryer months.

Don't delete it yet, we're just warming up! :thumb

This should suit you and your GSA just fine :ymca

Going back to the Conti Escape bit, I really fancied trying them on me old 100gs ( the Conti Road attacks were brill on the 1200rs) so I ordered a set from National Tyres. No probs with tubed type, Tubeless a different matter. Plenty of fronts but rears were on back order. A montrh later, same story. Contacted Cambrian Tyres(apparantly the sole importer of Conties, They confirmed the story. E mailed Conti to say that if they wanted to sell their tyres they would have to send us over a few. Got a reply saying that there was no problem and to contact the dealer( Sounds a bit like BMW?) Left id for another month or so and tried again... Still on back order. As by this time I was on the canvas I said feck and bought Tourances even if they do make me look:ymca or:rob or even:eek Would love to know if anyone haqs been able to try them as they are a lot cheaper than any of the others

OK, hands up... the Tourance do seem a lot better, I've only done about 300 miles so far, but they don't feel like they are going to give out when going from dry to wet. I'm guessing this is partly because they are a more road biased tyre but also because they are a radial?

Which lead me to thinking... can you get a radial knobbley? I've been riding for years now, but I have to admit I know little about tyre construction. I'm guessing a radial knobbley isnt possible, but its just a guess... does anyone know the answer?

My airhead, thanks to Vern from whom I bought it, is on TKC80s.

First time I rode it it scared the living shit out of me. They s-l-i-d-e in the wet. But they slide incredibly predictably, and once you're used to the sensation it's fine. In the dry they're absolutely fine and you can get the bike over a fair way.

Mind you, I do ride like a complete jessie in the wet...

I was planning on changing them ASAP when I first rode on them, but I'll keep 'em now. :thumb

Yeah, I know what you mean about the TKC80s, I swapped mine out last weekend for the Tourance and put the TKC in the garage loft until next year.

Don't mind sliding on 4 wheels, never overly happy about it on two ;)

As I say, was just thinking that surely a radial TKC would grip better wet and dry, just wondering if it is possible.

Anyway, not sure how close to me you are, but I can suggest a good dealer down this way if you get stuck for tyres.
