Aero woes. Cannot find the right setup.

So, I have a 2017 R1200GS TE Exclusive LC (non-adventure) and I for the life of me cannot find the 'perfect setup'. For clarity - I am 6ft, 14 stone and have a 31/32 inch inseam, so longer torso (which probs don't help). The bike is also a factory low chassis.

I have a standard height Isotta comfort seat on and cool cover (great seat btw!) - set to high at the front and low back. Now the interesting (or not part) - I cannot for the life of me get a perfect airflow going. It's always too loud, too buffety or making my eyes wobble.

Bear with me on this one because, I have been through some screens and accessories! - This is what I have tried.

• MRA Vario = Screen that is currently on the bike.
• Wunderlich Marathon
• Puig Touring
• Slipscreens Touring
• Wunderlich Ergo Winglets = currently on bike
• Cockpit tidy - recently took off

I don't mind some wind, just not straight to the face. With the MRA set to lowest and the deflector set any angle I can't get clean air. If I stand up and lean forward into the true clean air, it's nice and quiet.

I am thinking of taking everything off, putting an Adventure screen on and adding an adjustable deflector so I get some shoulder relief and air passing over the helmet. I've also read the standard mirrors can cause dirty air. It's all doing my head in to be honest.

For the record, I wear an RPHA 91 helmet, which fits perfect and also wear ear protection. If I do sort this, I have the perfect bike!

Anyone else been down this road? - and sorted it?

Like yourself, I suffered from the head buffeting, even when travelling slowly, under 60 mph on my 08 Bmw r1200 GSA, Standard GSA seat, 5' 10" in body height, thought was I never had this issues as badly on my Suzuki GSA 1400 naked bike, with no screen at all.

So thinking that a wrong screen was the problem, I set about trying variables, looking at what others used to avoid head wobbles, and went for this WRS screen, known as a sport or summer screen.

Gave it a go and yes it does help, nice cool breeze on body and on face when visor is lifted, however would worry about Motorway speeds, so over 70 mph might be problematic with that low screen fitted.

Best all rounder I had was on my Kawasaki GTR 1400 with an Air V-Stream screen fitted onto the electric screen mechanism that these bikes use.

Not quite sure with the Bmw GSA WRS screen yet, time will tell, for now it's short runs and no more touring vast distances anymore.

Take a look at just the way it is channel. He just posted on screen modification.
FWIW, I'm 5.110, same leg as you and I have a puig screen with the aero wing.
I ride everywhere with my C5 flip open and have no buffeting or wind blast when it's in high position. Quiet and comfortable for me.

I saw this too...it was an excellent solution.

Sounds like you need a car. No screen is going to remove all sensation of moving through the air at speed.

I've got a car, a very quiet one! I want air, don't want to have a complete bubble, I just cannot find the right flow, having my visor up and it distorts my vision isnt right.

Take the screen off and go for a ride

then if that works get a much smaller screen

People often go bigger thinking it will reduce buffeting etc but that buffeting is caused by the air void behind the screen

For full disclosure I rede a KTM 1390 SDR so no screen
I have no buffeting because I sit in clean air and the o screen thing only becomes noticeable above 100

Oh and if you have a wind noise issue look at the mirrors

My Multistrada mirrors would Chanel air straight to the bit of my helmet where my ears are and it was horrendous.
It took some working out but a mirror adjustment with some of those out and back things cured it

Could it be your helmet?

I like my HJC RPHA 90 but I think we get used to them- I recently bought a Shoei off a guy on here and it is noticeably quieter than my HJC.

I’m around the same build as you, I have the standard screen with a MRA X creen clipped on the top, I can cruise at up to around 80mph with my visor open ….. any quicker and I do get buffeting.
