Aerostich... what do we think of Darien??

My Roadcrafter has shrunk so I'm looking at a replacement...

One piece Roadcrafter... but next size up
2-piece Roadrafter, or
Darien Jacket & 'Pants'

There's lots of Roadcrafter fans here, but we rarely hear about the Darien - is there a reason?? Anyone tried the Darien?

Also, any thoughts anout 2-piece vs. 1-piece Roadcrafter?

Darien & Pants

Been using them for about the last 3 years and I'd have them again if needed. They are simple, robust, very versatile "does what it says on the tin" type of gear. The jacket is a shell with zip out fleece and loads of pockets. Chat to the people at aero and they will help you with sizing and ordering. They will also do alterations if you are lanky, stumpy, deformed etc If the trousers are for wearing over the top of office clothes etc get them roomy.

Ah yes....ordering. You'll get hit by extra taxes etc unless you can get it delivered to a friend on holiday in the US. I didn't ask for sizing advice from Aero the first time and got the wrong size so had to send it back However, by keeping the paperwork I claimed back the second "hit" of tax. (hope that makes sense).

And they have never leaked on me unlike my previous HG stuff.

Thanks Box... a couple questions for ya...
- Can you put the trousers on over boots (i.e. do tehy have long zips like Roadcrafter), and
- Is the jacket lined in the same way as Roadcrafter? i.e. thin nylon (?) lining with pockets for removable armour?

I'm tempted to give it a go, just for a change really - very impressed with the Roadcrafter quality and with Aerostich amazing customer service

Sorry for the delay, Tescos, painting, work and other crap got in the way

- Can you put the trousers on over boots (i.e. do tehy have long zips like Roadcrafter), Yep they zip all the way up the sides -
- Is the jacket lined in the same way as Roadcrafter? i.e. thin nylon (?) lining with pockets for removable armour? - no lining in the jacket but it comes with armour in pockets that you velcro in

Have had a pair of Darien pants for three years, and been using them everyday. One of the zips is on its last legs, but other than that they are great.

Top piece of kit, full length zip so can be put on over boots no problem and don'r leak.

They are un-lined so alway need to wear something under.

Lodsa bike stuff

I meant to say in an earlier post. Go to the Aerostich website and request a brochure. This will answer all your questions about the spec of the jacket and trousers and give you quite a hefty little book full of sh*t that you never knew you needed on a bike. Seriously, some of it is really good - and it's quite nice just for some "window shopping" too

I have Darien jacket as a winter jacket.

Good points:
well made, waterproof
the separate heated fleece jacket is bloody good for winter and zips in to make a great winter jacket.

Take out fleece and it's good to 38'c - I wore it in South Africa

I don't have trousers.


Bad points:
I have the high viz yellow and it's a bugger to keep any way near clean

p.p.s. Don't ever ever try long distance off road standing up wearing BMW summer city booties - I had metatarsalgia (AKA F*cking painful midfoot) for about a week after.

I have a pair of dariens and have used them for the last 8 months everyday. I love mine and they are relatively waterproof. However, coming from the roadcrafter you might find that they are too light in weight and not as figure hugging. The cut is loose and I am now considering getting the roadcrafter pants as they are probably a little more protective.

If you work in London near Holborn or come up to Bucks regularly you are welcome to try mine on. Its a size 36.

Was in Ireland with GSer Dec last week with his new Darien jacket. Speaks highly of it

He's a fireman down in Cork and it looked like he'd borrowed his works jacket
