AF-XIED for R1200 LC

I've only ever run it with the aftermarket end can - it's how the bike came to me. And, now you come to mention it, the difference between this bike and all the other 1200lc bikes I've ridden is...they all had stock silencers, without exception. QED!

You can pickup stock cans for not a lot of money here and on fleabay, to play around with, at least that would also eliminate any possible issues with can you have on the bike, if any at all.

Must confess, the price is off-putting but when you consider the potential gains in rideability (depending on how bad your bike's fueling is in the first place), the price becomes almost academic.

In all honesty Max I looked at the price, and said to myself, what would give me more options to play around with, and can be re-sold easily if I was not impressed, it was not like the product was new and all smoke and mirrors, a lot of testing had gone into it, I could have bought a AKRA end can, more expensive, change not much, except the sound, but I do not want to go deaf, 400 quid on a so called tune, and no re-sale value, so obviously once we look at the 450 quid the AF-Xieds cost and the things that you can actually tweak and see for yourself, they now seen really good value, to me at least, and also this bike will certainly be my last big bike to play around with, as age and body parts are dropping off, I will need a lighter bike later, so no 1250 for me that is a fact, even thought it is a very nice bike and needs no tweaking, but neither would my 1200 2017, it is just me enjoying and finding a little perfection point, that I may never find, but so is life. :beerjug:

You should have bought it Del, you could have sold it on here for a 50 pence profit. :jes it has been done before. :hide:hide

Yup, no doubt it has, there seems to be one or two who trawl for bargains elsewhere, and here, then sell them on at inflated prices. I almost always seem to lose when i try that :blast Although it has to be said, i dont do it deliberately sometimes its just not up to the quality im looking for and as you no doubt know now, i end up spending twice as much as i needed to had i bought it new in the first place.:rolleyes::comfort well well thats just me :green gri:D

Good old Del save a penny today, spend 10 quid next week. :D now back on track.

Bloody hell smogbob! Your post could almost have been written by me, verbatim. Although I'm the (relatively) tender age of 52, my knees are shot, back knackered and now my right elbow is seizing up too. Gradually losing the strength and control in my throttle hand as a result (thank Christ I'm left handed, so I won't have to give up everything :P:D).

The RT was supposed to be my last big bike before consigning the garage to sub 500s, but I'd wanted/needed another GS for years, so here we are. If I can find that same perfection place you're currently at - and often the journey there is as rewarding as the destination - then I'll be a happy old tosser. :thumby:

Saw a BNIB stock can for sale on fleabay couple of weeks ago £50 !!

Cheers gents. In fact, I've got the original pipe hidden away in shame corner, in the garage. It's in really sh1t order, mainly as a result of my own stupidity, but it's only aesthetically fubared (long story, off topic, shan't bore you with my idiot's tale) so considering it may be exacerbating the issue, I'll try it out and see if the surging stops.

But I'll do that AFTER fitting the AF-Xied units... This probably sounds like lunacy, but I don't want to cancel the order now it's in progress and if the mod fixes the bike up, well I must confess to the big difference between me and smogbob: I like a vocal exhaust pipe - but then I'm half deaf already :shout.

If it does come to trying my wrecked OE pipe and this turns out to be the cure, then I'll need to pay fleabay a visit!

Totally happy to agree on most points, only one I personally would do first is stick the old can back on, in order for your ECU to relearn itself, that happens really quickly, then bike is back to stock, then you can see a real before and after with AF-Xied,s , and in all honesty if your stock can aint rusty, just get it powder coated black like most do.

That does sound like a very sensible plan. Tbh, never thought of black powder coat - it'd certainly get rid of the evidence of my (dumb arse, acid cleaner related) faux pas and, as the centre stand needs doing anyway, I could get them both done at the same time.

Thanks for the suggestion.:)

I’v just fitted Akrapovic headers (no cat) I’m still running the Af-Xieds on 7, but was thinking of going up to 8 to see how it runs with a bit more fuel. Has anyone with no cat headers done likewise?

Big apologies Rockred, in me highjacking this thread your post got lost along the way. I'm backing off, give some others a chance :blush

Warlord done his, cannot find the picture but does look very nice indeed.

Thanks!! I'll pm him:thumby:

Replying to warranty question you posted in another thread, it is better here.

So I sat down with my very friendly German dealer who spends a lot of time a BMW HQ, and he said it is quite simple, what we cannot see is OK, what we see that touches the ECU like ECU re-flashing will void the warranty straight away, so for me AF-Xied is a simple on and off solution if bike needs to go to BMW for anything, once installed, it is easy to take off and put back on again, if something happens to the bike and recovery is needed, with minimum tools and before recovery arrives, quite easy to remove from bike, an ECU reflash if one really existed and you are stuffed.

Nice run out today 350kms up and down the black mountains outside temp average 20C, bike pulled really nicely, I can really feel the difference in now and before, certainly when pulling uphill, not feeling the need as much to change down a gear to keep going up, bike just feels like something has been added, and yes I guess it is fuel, and noticeably the bike seems to be running so cool, even after giving it a good razzle, back in the garage bike is not mad hot, although some of the heat before may have came from the extreme heat we have had here in the past 2 months, so not really sure that would be an accurate measure, will be interesting as the weather cools down to see if I need to change the setting, as we all know or hope so at least, in winter the bikes own ECU will make the bike run richer, clever bikes now, so maybe this is why the 1200 GS LC seems to run smoother in the winter, at least that is how mine felt over the winter, it did not feel like it was gasping for fuel like in the hotter temperatures, I have a sneaky feeling this is how BMW get through their emission testing, in the summer bikes burn off all the extra fuel, so less emissions, and in the winter run richer, because they have to, pretty sneaky tactics, but would most bikers notice, I doubt it, but again it is only an opinion of mine, let the shooting begin. :hippy

Little off topic however just had a phone call from a mate who lives a fair distance from me, but bought a 1250 GS, actually one of the first sold through dealer, and installed a booster plug after riding 6000 kms to see if it made any difference, at 14000 kms he has removed it and said on the 1250 total waste of money, no difference at all, however when he had it on his older 1200 gs it worked well.
