Motorworks doesn't make anything like an AF-XIED. You can also order it at beemerboneyard.com.

I remember about 8+yrs ago, somebody on here was selling a similar small wiring loop to fit on the GS under the seat and connecting to the air sensor connection on top of the air filter. That also tried to fool the ECU into thinking it needed to adjust the air/fuel ratio.
I'm sure the guy making them was in Belgium.

It was and probably still is called the "Accelerator Module".
Your absolutely right in that it fooled the Motronic into thinking the Air inlet temperature was about 20deg lower than normal. As colder air is denser, the Motronic then added extra fuel in the open loop phase to maintain the Fuel/Air ratio.
Well I think that's how it worked.

A booster plugs tricks your Ecu into thinking it's cold so permanently delivers more fuel. An AF XIED is linked to your O2 sensor so is constantly adapting your fueling and changes to the circumstances and weather.

What is wrong with the way BMW did it then? Why can't the massive resources of BMW produce an engine that works as well as these aftermarket twiddlers? If a back yard tweaker can improve how the motor runs, why can't BMW engineers do the same?
It's all down to the EU and its strict guidelines on emissions. By default the engine runs lean out of the factory. These devices change that and get them running how BMW wanted before all the red tape

It's just the same for cats DPFS and EGR valve. All introduced for emissions but don't actually do anything to make an engine perform better. Hence why all run better when taken out.

They did a good job with the maps but then they have to lock them to the O2 sensor's lean setting at 14.7:1.

The AF-XIED is a device that shifts the O2 to a richer reference point. By doing this the ECU thinks the bike is running lean and shifts the entire fuel map to the AF-xied's richer reference point.
Almost opposite to what a BP does,which introduces an air temp error that at first adds fuel but by the time you've burned a couple tanks of gas the ECU has shifted everything back to be in compliance with the O2 sensor.
What is MOT time? If it's an inspection, there's a dial in the AF-XIED that lets you shift fueling back to stock.

Hi Rodger, it's an annual roadworthy test (Ministry of Transport, hence MOT), it doesn't test emissions on bikes (yet).

WoW, $270 including additional harness plus shipping costs; plus import duty.
For the amount of time you travel slow enough to create surging is minimal and I though the twin spark models were supposed to eliminate that!
