Just registered and they're up to 9,931 bikes already, and there's still five weeks to go!

I went on the Reading toy run last December when it took over half an hour for the bikes to pass a given point, and there were around 1,500 to 2,000 bikes there.

It'll be interesting to see what happens on the day.

Well i'm going and I'm going for my own reasons and to remember fallen friends and also show support to the guys out there now.

I just wish they'd put my event on the same facebook page lol... no bugger has even wished me luck lol

If there is going to be 13000+ bikes id better fill up before i get there :D

ONLY A WEEK LEFT to register not 5 weeks

All bikers who wish to take part and enter the RAF base are asked to register by going to www.afghanheroes.org.uk by 15th February for security reasons.

Update!: Monday 8th February 2010 2030

After the meeting today with the authorities and the unprecedented response from the biking community we have been asked to close registration one week early. It will unfortunately NOT be re-opening.

We would like to reassure everyone that the ride IS GOING AHEAD WITH the FULL support of the police and local authorities. We have spoken to a few local businesses who are all looking forward to the day. ALL bikes will be riding through Wootton Bassett no matter what you may have heard.

Plan details re: routes, times, wristbands, will be made available in document format soon. We have another meeting with the police next week to discuss the finer details.
We can confirm that we will NOT be riding on any stretches of the motorway.

We would like to apologise to anybody who has not registered however wanted to join us, we thank everybody for their patience and support.

Thank you for your patience!

10,500 RIDERS doing the ride out at least if not more, I hope they don't do the drop off system

I am joking by the way:mmmm

Yes Ricky you are right wrist band on the day, i was getting concerned about the 9,000 odd people in the queue infront of me at the services :D thought you could pre-buy but no.
Should be an interesting day, i frequent 6 other bike sites and large groups are going from all of them.

I'm getting concerned re the numbers.
By my calculations if there are 10000 bikers taking 10minutes to refuel at one of 18 pumps, that will take 3days 20 hours. I'd guess a similar time for us all to pee! Heaven forbade you haven't debombed prior to setting off.
If we are to check in and give our £5 it will need to be by bike as that is how we are identified as one of the 10000.
If they have 20 helpers that will still take around 3days for us all to get our arm bands!!
Not sure why they haven't sent stuff out by post.
The welsh helimed ride had 250 or so and it still took 30 minutes to get processed.
Hmmmm could be a fun day!!

It's a GO!!

From the organising team.

An announcement… and at last it’s great news!

All the agencies (Police, MOD & Local Authorities) have come together to make the Mother’s day ride through Wootton Bassett possible.

The ride will now start within the Hullavington Airfield nr Buckley army barracks (A429) and all of the 10331 registered riders will pass through Wootton Bassett before dispersing. All registered riders will soon receive (by email) full instructions/documentation of the route, arrival / leaving times, a proof of registration and the method by which we are going to get this many riders through a small Wiltshire village safely and without causing total gridlock.

We absolutely understand how difficult it must be for those that missed registration however must ask non-registered riders NOT TO ATTEND; As this poses a major threat to fellow bikers who would be at very high risk if left stationary on the M4 motorway as a result of any of the local junctions becoming blocked.

We must stress that ONLY REGISTERED RIDERS will be able to go on the organised ride.

We would like to thank The Unity Ride team for their assistance in the negotiations, planning and kind offer to marshal.

Thank you everybody who has offered their help for this event. If you still would like to contribute your time or services then please use the contact form on the Official Afghan Heroes web site and tell us what you can provide.

Try reading a couple of quotes from WB residents on the Afghan Heroes forum, apparently they can,t wait for the event! I'm not saying that every resident will enjoy having their town taken over by 10,331 bikers but I'm betting a lot of people will turn out to watch.
Glad you will be putting your money in though. Can't understand the "what a waste" comment though? Comes across as very bitter and twisted for what ever reason you have? I hope you have an enjoyable day at home.

I don't give a shite if it turns out to be a pigs ear anyway, a good excuse to get out on the bike with a load of mates and like minded bikers to show support. As to laying in yer pit, have you not had enough of that over the past 3 months :nenau
