afghan heroes ride

flippin heck that was just the best event/ride out ever so many bikes people allthe way from the airfield to wooton basset out clapping and cheering!...from old grannies to little kids! glad i went

Just got home after the Wootton Bassett run. An amazing day, and listening to the opening speech made you realise just how trivial your own problems really are.

Saw dozens of GS's so probably a lot of fellow tossers were there.

They reckon the day will have raised over £75,000 for charity.

Even the people from the old peoples home were sat outside with a blanket over them to keep them warm waving, BRILLIANT DAY, very well organized and the police kept a very low profile, I must say it brought a lump to my throat, with loads of banners thanking bikers.

And a BIG thank you to all the people that donated there free time to make this event happen, that today took a lot of behind the scenes organizing well done to one and all:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap:clap

I was just thinking when I got home after stopping in a pub have an orange juice then riding home 100 miles getting home about 16.30 and thinking that they would still be leaving the airfield to ride thru, those people lining the roads are certainly going to have sore arms with all that waving:thumb2

Made it into the center of WB, ended up watching from the pavement at the end,

Watched about 1500 bikes go by, had a fantastic thrash home on Mrs B`s 650 GS great bike, came back over The Plain looking for Captin GS and his merry men.

Nice day, with the town folk loving the parade.

true there has been some negative comments in the national and local press but that was always going to happen!

Was it?

There's never any negative press about the RTTW :duno

Ah, but then that one doesn't disrupt the local community :idea

Well then if the Swindon Advertiser clearly shows a positive attitude then it must be ok, dip your bread boys :clap

:jes

Great day great weather, thanks to all the people that should be thanked and can I do it again pls ?

Just got back also

An amazing event from start to finish. Perfect weather for the whole day. 35 of us set off from CW's in Dorchester, by the time we'd got through Shaftsbury we had grown even more and kept picking up bikes all the way to the airfield at Hullavington. Not being pious but this really was something special! i have done big rallies and ride outs for over 30 yrs and this really was brilliant to be part of. The ammount of support for the bikers was phoenominal, when you had to stop along the route people would ask how far you had come, thank you for doing it etc etc. Just heard Julia Stephenson (organiser) say that they reckon to have now raised over £100,000:clap:clap
Going to the people that really need it! The GSA was perfect for the ride as you can get all ya food drink and camping stools in the boxes. Met loads of great people to chat with whilst waiting for the off, the ride was short but good fun and the reception from the people of Wootton Bassett was tremendous! Now got to sort out the video footage!!:beerjug:

It really was something special and I felt honoured to be a part of it. Hopefully some of the media doom and gloomers will be apologising as the ride was incredibly well supported by the local community through all the villages we went through. Quite moving to see so many of the older generation out waving and clapping. Well organised to.

Well done to all that went to show their support, after reading all the doom and gloom merchants on numerous forums, I'm pleased it went OK.

just got back myself from helping out with the event.
closer to 22,000 bikes, somewhere between 120,000 and 150,000 on the day and by the time the internet stuff and t shirts etc are taken into account hopfully well over £200,000.

sorry if you had a wait, we tried our best, just couldnt get the old bill to get a move on !!!

Hope everyone enjoyed it

It was megga, i cant beleve how welcoming every one who linned the route was, what a great day, i think i might invest in a new batery though:augie

So what was the word on the high street the Mutley? All the people that you chatted to this afternoon... what did they have to say about the disruption?
Purely from an objective point of view you understand!:mmmm

Oh I'm sorry mate... i thought you were going to give us a de-brief on the local disruption;) which from my bike cam and what I saw seemed to be well in hand by the local boys in blue. Sterling job they did too:beerjug:
Quick question though, why were you so against the ride, are you a Wootton Bassett local?
