Looking for an experienced rider to join me on a grand adventure across Africa!!!
Hi All
I am planning to do Africa, hopefully early 2013, and would like to do it with an experienced partner
The plan is to take my own bike, ride down through Europe and cross over to North Africa and travel down the east coast countries (excluding Somalia of course) to Cape Town then cargo the bike back. This is probably 2.5/3 month trip. Interested?
So, without making this sound like a personal ad!! I'm 49, Irish, experienced adventure rider. Plan do this trip on my GSA 1200, though I may consider a lighter bike (GS800/KTM) when the detailed route is planned; depending on the amount of non- paved roads.
I did South America Nov/Dec last year (2011); see my previous threads, on the GSA which was a great performer on the trip though a bit heavy in the sands of South West Bolivia!
Africa is a bigger challenge for lots of reasons, but I'm determined to do it.

Let me know if your interested and we'll talk. Or if you've done Africa and can offer info/advise; it would be very welcome

provisionally 1st February, if I start in capetown (flying the bike there) and ride home or April if riding from home. Still working through the climate options to ensure I plan around the seasons as best as possible option re temp and rainy season. My preference at this stage is Feb but can be flexible

Wow.
Well I really want to do something like this..

Unfortunately I'm at uni still so wouldnt be able too.

How much are you anticipating it to cost? Just out of interest

Cheers,
Luke

Im researching a trip down to Morocco in early 2013 also but Im open to any ideas, just need to be back in Ireland by March. My bike is currently in Florida (F800 GS) but I will be driving the blueridge parkway to New York to ship it home in October.

I've not done any adventure biking before but used the GS to go trail/offroad riding in the swamps in Florida.

Interested at all?

East Coast ?

Just wondered what your plan was for the latter part of your trip if you intend coming up the East side of Africa. During the planning for my (aborted) trip from the UK to South Africa last October, we worked out that it was just viable to dash across Syria in order to get into Egypt with limited complications. The way Syria has spiralled out of control since obviously makes this a non-option. Just wondered how you planned to make the northern part of the trip into Europe. It can get a bit complicated now. I'm currently working on a shorter trip down to Senegal or maybe a bit further, but in a few months time. Good luck by the way :thumb2

This thread may have dried up! I would love to go through some of Africa again. Did it with a partner in 2007. However the politics are a bit dicier right now. I cannot come in Feb or spring time but am looking for something from October 2013 onwards. My current dream would be to ship to Cape Town and then head up through the middle all the way to Uganda/Rwanda. Possibly head back down again via Malawi etc. ie do a large middle of Africa loop and in that way not have the nightmare of trying to get a visa for Sudan and all the carnet loading for Egypt. I have done round the Med and have been through Libya. I have also travelled down some of the east coast. It is possible to ship from Mombassa but much easier in Cape Town.
