Africa Twin is coming

I have my deposit down on a red DCT but the recent specs and photos make it look a bit 'spindly' still don't have any clues on delivery dates / prices / spec and to be honest though my heart is saying Africa Twin my head is saying Super Ten... maybe the 8am launch on the 28th will change my mind... meanwhile I have started this

Flip if those are your only choices I would take the AT every time as the ST is well passed it.

One of my main concerns is long distances with a chain as FD, shaft is just my preference and less maintenance required on my longer solo trips of 7,000 miles plus

That's an old wive's tale, a quality chain can be at least as reliable as shaft and with very little, but correct maintenance :beerjug:

I think this new AT looks great, and would replace the word 'spindly' with nimble.......an interesting bike imo ;)

Bit clattery......a bit like a toilets gearbox. :D

Fixed..:green gri

Ref chain final drive. Are there riders out there that have never owned a bike with a chain ? I always find it odd to read comments about how they seem scared of buying a bike without a shaft drive. Is it lack of knowledge, laziness or what ?
4000 miles last year on my hols, kept the chain well lubed and adjusted it once.....when I got home...and it took less than a full turn on the adjusters.

Chain or shaft never bothered me TBH Tim and Davey are both correct the right adjustment and Lube a chain will not cause any problem

The bike does look small but then again that guy may be 6 foot 8 LOL, it don't look much bigger than My 700 Transalp but it does look a site more (nimbler) than both my Transalp and Versys 1000
Not saying that's a bad thing as a bike similar in size with almost 40 bhp more than a stock Transalp and almost the same weight cant be a bad thing, Can it ?

Ill have a sit on it on the 28th (hopefully!!) and see how it fits my fatness cant wait for the worlds bike critics get a hold of it and see how they rate it !!

Has anyone received there VIP LOL tickets yet Ive heard nothing ??

I would rather have to get a chain fixed than a shaft drive in some of the more remote destinations - :D

Honda UK were very quick sending out my other complimentary tickets for normal entry and did say they would be issuing the VIP ones within ten days. That should mean those should be here some time this week.....allegedly.

Thanks Davey

Ill keep an eye out for them !! :thumb

China's are fine, personally I just don't like the mess. Ran a couple of Fazers and the X challenge + DRZ in recent years but in the since 1997 I've been mainly running shafties although not necessarily by design.

Lots more cleaning involved with a chain although to be fair I have never tried a scotoiler.

Spindly, a bit small :blast

It's been designed that way so it would have real off road potential - That objectives been clear from the start and we've even had insight on how they'd achieve this.

What did people think it would be like

Somewhere in this thread there are complaints that it is too heavy. Now it's too spindly. Whatever it looks like being something that is stiring the soul, which is a change for a Honda and the result of a highly successful if somewhat tedious marketing strategy.

I know a few folk has wondered about the size of the AT and how it'll fit them. Here's a few pics with a chap on board who is 6'2" tall....and very un-Tosser stature. :thumb

It definitely seems more Transalp than Crosstourer - probably a good thing with all those nasty parking bollards around Tescos :D
