Africa Twin is coming

Without re reading the MCN article the comments regarding the engine were not about any overall lack of power . It was more about the fact that it lacked a bit of 'sparkle' in that it didn't quite have the low down pull and character of a boxer engine and then nor did have the same high rev urgency of something like a KTM. Its possible lacking a bit of that immeasurable ; 'character' . It certainly sounds nice in the videos.

Basically it's not a boxer twin nor is it a V twin.....that shouldnt come as much of a surprise as the spec' definitely said all along that it was a parallel twin :P

Very true but it is a 270 degree parallel twin which is in theory supposed to mimic the characteristics of a V twin :)

Then so is the Yamaha Superten which again no one has ever raved about it having a stonking engine ;)

That said so is my little Scrambler - so looks like I already have a 270 degree parallel twin adventure bike just like the AT :augie

Lacked a bit of sparkle - now I can understand that.

When I looked at a LC I missed the low down grunty sparkle that 1150's and the last of the Hexheads still have - that's not to say the LC does not develop as much or more low down as them, deffinatley more than the 1150 it's just that the 1150 and TC Hexhead present what they have in such a nice way.

I think thats why I never gelled with the 12GS toilet......it felt too..........Japanese.

The new AT is bound to lack a bit of sparkle........... It's a Honda!

What is lacks in sparkle will be made up with tediously good build quality and yawn-worthy reliability. No competition for that 'will I make it home' feeling you always get with a GS

I plan to treat myself in a few years time and buy my first ever new (or nearly new) bike when I turn 50 and the end of my mortgage is in sight.

At the time of writing it's between a triple black GS LC and the AT.

Something to look forward to and by then you lot will have given me a good idea if the Honda is a good'n or not :beerjug:

I've yet to ride any GS that had an ounce of sparkle !!

What the older GSs had (and I'll include the original 1200GSA) was the feeling that they added up to more than the sums of their parts, which I think is definitely missing from the latest toilet variants.

I think the AT will be similar, but hopefully with the build quality and reliability that has been absent from the BMW range for nearly a decade.

Had my 1150 for 14 years, been over a lot of Europe.. never ever had the feeling 'will I make it home'...

You must have been unlucky with yours.

At the point we start referencing ABS as a "Talent Compensator" I really lose interest in the rest of the post....

Same here, 6.5 yrs and 45 k miles on my 1150 GS and almost 40k now on my 12Gs both never let me down although I am glad its non ABS or ESA etc

I was being mischievous. I have done 12,000 miles on my 2010 GS with only a blown headlight bulb to moan about. I love it.

There that's cursed me now!

+1 currentry 138,000 on mine - sure few things have worn out (fuel pump and final drive oil seal) but it has always everytiem got me home... I am gettign the AT in Red with DCT but my GSA owes me nothing and will stay with me in my garage

I was thinking it would be very unlucky for anything to happen to them during the next month or so but that's my luck to be honest

Cartjo5 that's what im worried about when it happens it happens fast you don't get 3 mths notice as your aware, bank accounts close over night and my £8500 isn't going to get a look in if they owed the tax man £500K !!
I don't want to upset the deal and pi55 them off but by the same token cant afford to loose £8500 + The deposit !!
