Africa Twin is coming

This thread cracks me up

Ok now on a serious note and I apologise in advance for this !!

Out of the 4 of us that have ordered one of these are any of us going to use these off road if so with the decent wheel size 18/21 what tyres are we favouring I usually use MT21 front and TKC80 rear on my bikes with a 17" rear wheel I've used the combo for years on lots of bikes with good results the rear does get full of mud but it does allow you to steer with the rear, the best tyres I've used were the AC10s fitted to a new Honda XR650 I bought, these were exceptional in the rough stuff but didn't really ride that bike on the road much, seems a shame to use TKC80s on an 18" rear rim

What's your thoughts on the matter

To be honest, probably not,as there is very little scope for offroading a big trailie locally. But I would love to do something like the TAT on the AT if Bilco or someone else does a similar trip in 2017.Not sure a DCT AT with an off road twat like me on board would cope with the TAT.

Any thoughts from those in the know ? Timolgra etc ?

"It's no Super Adventure" - as the man says. :green gri

That's quite a good unbiased review.
Yup,I'm looking forward to mine.Get part time at work and then I can see myself shipping it to the US and A and riding the TAT etc. What can possibly go wrong ?

I heard more like 230 kg

Standard is 232 kg, DCT version 242 kg wet weight - so the DCT version is actually heavier than a toilet R1200GS at 238 kg

A Tiger 800 XC by comparison is down at 215KG.

So the power to weight ratio would be.... :blast

BMW GS 1200

Claimed weight: 90% fueled, road ready: 229kg's (503.8lbs)
Actual weight: Fully fueled: 242kg's (532.4lbs)

Lies, damned lies and statistics.......just saying. ;)

Ultimately, it's the way they all feel to the rider.

So depending which stats you look at the DCT AT is at least as heavy as a 1200 GS (despite the GS having a bit larger tank) - Awesome :P

PS - from BMW's web site R1200GS:

Unladen weight, road ready, fully fuelled - 238 KG (According to Directive 93/93/EEC with all fluids, fuelled to at least 90% of usable fuel tank)

Thoughts?
You have at least 18 months to become less of an off road twat :D

Sometimes the bolt breaks and so does the swing arm eh Tim
