Africa Twin is coming

Don't think this will go down well but I can't see what the fuss is about with this bike. It's as heavy as a gs12 with less power than a triumph tiger. Haven't really read that much about it but does it have any electronics like tc, rider modes, cruise control etc? Must be the worst power/weight ratio of any adventure type bike? Can't be any competition to a ktm 1050 or triumph tiger 800 let alone a 800gs. Sorry for the negativity but not for me I don't think, anyway looking forward to a test ride!

Why would you want bloody cruise control, unless you were a lazy fat Merkin ?? It's an Africa Twin, not a Goldwing !!

If you think it's all about power to weight ratios then you will never get such a bike, either literally or physically !

Clearly it did not go down well :D

Never thought I would say it but Cruise control is actually very nice to have and I am not lazy, fat or a Merkin :thumb

There again some folks would say why would you order a bike with the "Talent Compensator" DCT :augie

I agree, cruise control would be nice, especially on a full on tourer if you intend to sit on an autoroute for 1000 miles. But The AT is designed to be ridden offroad and in the twisties where cruise control is about as much use as hair spray is to Nutty !!

I've ordered DCT as it'll be something different to my other bikes and the fact that every road test so far seems to rave about it off road will be a bonus because if I do take mine on the dirt it will certainly compensate for my lack of talent.

Just think how much cruise control would cost if it was an option? :D

Unless you plan to stick it in the back of a trailer you still need to get from home to the offroad/twisties which of course normally involves a bit of motorway/auto route ;)

Sure that DCT will prove a benefit just not convinced that it is worth the added complexity/cost/10kg in weight but look forward to your thoughts when you take delivery :thumb

Actually I plan to stick it in an aeroplane !!!

But when I take it to France and head back to the alps I'll be going the back way as always, sticking to D roads.

I'm not sure the 10kgs is relevant but I think what is relevant is that it will be a boon riding locally where stop/start is very common and also when the view is as important as the road.I'll certainly report back though.

Hopefully you are right - it will be low down in the engine at least - just think that 242kg is a lot of weight regardless of what HP it produces ;)

Dont think you can wheelie a DCT equipped bike. Please do tell me if I'm wrong... Not that I condone antisocial wheelies everywhere, much

Oh yes, no problems getting it up. The front wheel I mean. After turning the Traction control off (Crosstourer replaced my WMB)
