Testing riding one tomorrow. I've had 800 GSs for the last 7 years, so I'm interested to see what the opposition has to offer! :thumb2

Not a bad figure Davy, but your right its the difference in the ride that matters over figures on paper Ill get mine up there as soon as I can loose a day, ordered a MT10 today so may wait till that arrives and take the pair of them up there in one of the vans

Test rode one today, from Vertu Honda at Nottingham. Coming from an 800GS highlights as follows:

A bit heavier than the 800, can't really tell once it gets moving, other than it doesn't flick about as easily.

Low speed and overall balance is better. I don't know if the weight is lower down, but it felt more like a 1200 at low speeds, rather than the 800 which can be a bit 'fidgety'. Once it was moving handled really well, very similar to the 800, other than a bit more input required to turn in.

Gearing very low, needs 4th at 30mph in town. I thought this might be a problem and that it might run out of gears before it got going, but the engine is so good it was not an issue at all. Where the 800 runs out of puff fairly quickly when accelerating and encourages short shifting, the Honda engine just keeps on giving :D. It made a wonderful noise too, with an aftermarket Remus fitted.

Everything very smooth, engine, gear change etc. and it felt really well screwed together.

Brakes and suspension better than the 800.

It had a tall screen fitted which interfered with my eye-line and caused buffeting. Also doesn't look as nice as the standard screen IMO.

Overall, I think it is a better bike than the current 800, but that is due to be replaced next year, so who knows what that will bring :nenau.

Good one Fran :thumb

Next year? A three cylinder 800 like I predicted three or four years ago :D
I can't understand why BMW haven't pulled me in to their design and development team yet :rob

Decided to ditch the Honda topbox and gone back into the SW-Motech camp. My 33 ltr Givi is a better shape and seems able to take more odds and sods and is much better for storing my lid in. Plus it is a nice platform for this wee item I got to use as a day bag for everyday use until I need the storage of the Givi.
