Africa Twin is HERE !!!

Would love to say what my average millage is but I can't as I've not seen my bike for three weeks now, as the fucking thing is in bits on the workshop bench in the Honda dealers

So it has a similar performance of a tractor?.......... We had heard that.....:D

Yes it pulls like a tractor , not like a sewing machine :-)

330 miles on Monday on a trip over to Scotland to visit Schtum. The only thing I need to make it perfect is a Sargent seat. It's not that the seat is really bad, (like the plank my 12GS was fitted with... a Sargent sorted that out too), but it does make me squirm a bit once over 100 miles. Averaged 61 mpg too :thumb2

Ha ha. I did 562 miles in one day last week and was fine . I've got the tall seat though .

Africa Twi

What has happened to it? Mine has been faultless and benefited from the new Akro end can. Just toured the Picos and Southern France two up and it was brilliant.

They don't think it's a problem with the bike it's just ticking all the boxes, just means bikes out of action for three weeks upto now, replacement parts are taking to long to get from Honda,
I think the accessories that come from Honda are shit, boxes not worth the money, other bits not what they used to be, I think, others may think differently but I can only go off my experience

Reading the last few pages of this thread hasn't made me want to go and chop my 63 plate GSA in for one, had a good look round a new one on the IOM and was really impressed initially.

OK, well here's my summary then .....

Plenty powerful enough (especially with the full Arrow Ti system, but you honestly don't really need to spend so much). Handling is terrific, brakes are strong, suspension is luxurious.

Quality, more than happy. No issues with paint falling off/crap gearboxes plus all the other consistent moans from many of the GS collective. I guess many will say it doesn't have the finish of Hondas of old and yes, it ain't no VFR, but I find it's easy to look after.

Economy, superb.

Comfort, I will buy a Sargent seat, but otherwise, very pleased.

Moans, the SET button gets sticky now and again (to be replaced) and the heated grips are not terribly hot and too expensive (still to be sorted).

No leaking panniers, no corroding spokes, no mechanical gremlins other than the above.

Dealer, they've been great and I have a very good relationship with them. I know many bang on about how great their BMW dealers are, but then, look at the practice they have fixing their problems. :D

Is it the best bike in the world ? No, but it's the best bike for me.

The bike rides well, it's plenty power, seat is uncomfortable, heated grips just about hot, not the best, I'll keep it till the warranty runs out but I can't trust it beyond that, I'll not be buying another,
I'm abit disappointed with the way Honda behave they till me parts are at the dealers been there a week dealer tells me that the parts are not there ( what the hell ) come on Honda some one tell me the truth.

At accessorises

'Crash bars' shite.
Luggage and heated grips feckin awful.
From new I fitted Holan panniers and crash bars. Excellent products. Managed to get a brand new unused Ackro end can at a greatly reduced price. Can feel the difference in the mid range but it is a bit quiet and the baffles are fixed.
During a recent 2000 mile trip with my wife we found the seat to be fine. Reliability has been what you would expect from Honda - faultless in 4,000 miles.

Well ! we're all different, and that's a good thing, :thumb2

But after 6,500 miles on my DCT AT, I can't fault it (apart from the spoke problem) so, if for some reason I could only have one of my bikes in the garage I would have to keep the Africa Twin, The best all round bike I've had in almost 60 years,

Honda uk phoned me today finally.
No fix for heated grips so there refunding me the money. :clap:clap
On another note still no fix for spokes either

My bike has been faultless too apart from the spokes tarnishing a tad. Done over 2000 miles in last week and its brilliant

Not long after these came out i test rode one and was underwhelmed, however I thought it might be on my radar in few years time at half the price. Having just farkled my recently purchased 650 VStrom to the max with a total outlay of less than 5K I don't think I will bother.
