Remarks like this are downright offensive and unnecessary and NOT in the least bit funny. HMARC is a valuable contributor to this forum and he runs an excellent and very informative website. I for one and I'm sure there are many others out there, who would miss any further input from him should he decide to boycott this forum as a result of these remarks. Perhaps bigbike should appologise!!

If I had a website, and somebody liked what I did so much that they showed it to others, I'd be chuffed, proud that what I've done was of interest and helped and informed others. I wouldnt bitch about it.

Shedracer - have you got the shocks on yet? What made you go for them in the end over Ohlins?

Shedracer, here I was thinking you've gone for the RT after serious consideration! But now I know that it's just uprating the springs (and buying shocks to cover it up) on the GS - what a sigh of releif!
Anyhoo - I'd love a set of blingbling like that, but I'll spend my money on a year-card on the Nurburgring instead...

The 12GS is a great bike. But its not a racing tool needing the last best bits, and its not a really serious off road tool either. So why spend all that hard earned on components that will likely make bugger all real life difference?

I was going to just go for the front but as my Xmas overtime money had just been deposited I went the whole hog. I believe these will be an improvement on the mass produced originals, as they are hand built and custom made for my weight and type of riding. Fast but smooth and safe. The price differance compared to say Ohlins or WP is quite good and the Wilbers offer lots of adjustment.
I only orderred them on Tuesday, so I am expecting them in 14 days. As soon as I get them, you guys will be the first to know about it.

...just got back from a long ride on my Wilbers-equipped R1200GS. I'm a happy guy now! Amazing how a good ride can put you in the best of moods, eh?

Shedracer, those shocks are only to stop the tobacco shocking out of the pipe... confess now... you want a more Americanish ride don'tya... that's why you went to the American site and looked...
Seriously on the subject of damping.
If you're feeling that the bike "hits up" through the bars (technical term ) it's not the preload that you should be fiddling with. Preload only sets the static sag really (and with the correct springs the dynamic sag/static sag can be adjusted to perfection).
It's the compression damping settings that you need to soften. That should prevent the harshness up through the bars - and, if you find that the bike bounces back up after a compress, you've got too little rebound damping, if you experience the bike squatting down after plenty of bumps, then you have got too much rebound damping...
I might be talking out of my 4rse too... so use your common sense and don't sue me if it goes pear shaped.

Interestingly I think the front shock on my bike is OK, but the rear one doesn't go "soft" enough for one-up riding.
Two up I have max preload and nearly max damping, and it's pretty good. But one up, even with minimum preload and the damping turned down a long way, it's still too hard. Sadly I can't afford new shocks this year, I'll have to manage!
