I am trying to find a sump guard for my 2010 GSA that will fit with a full Akropovic exhaust system

Has anyone fitted an aftermarket sump guard to their bike with the Akropovic down pipes
My concern is with the cross pipe on the down pipes and the retaining springs clashing with the front of the guard and so not permitting fitting of the sump guard.

I have also removed the CAT and replaced the flappy paddle valve with a connecting tube.
Most of these sump guards seem to extend a bit further back towards the Y connector point

Has anyone had any issues with a similar set up when trying to fit a sump guard such as the BMW endure sump guard? BMW part number 77 14 7 724 326 or any other sump guard for that matter?

Had a chat with Williams BMW Manchester today and they didn’t seem to know simply because the down pipes I have fitted are not a BMW part:nenau

I have an Akra shotgun system. Same issue with the down pipes and Touratech bash plate which is supposed to use the standard brackets.

It won't fit with the standard brackets and Akras. But a special bracket and new mounting holes will allow if to fit further forward.

On mine, the back end will also need a new bracket. But a normal interchangeable header should be ok.

Do check the Akra header pipes are symmetrical either side. They tend to sit further out to one side if not very careful.

In spite of using the correct anti seize, my Akra headers have self welded into one piece. They are sitting not quite symmetrical so the TT bash plate looks lop sided with the standard bash plate front bracket.

However apart from my not quite symmetrical headers the front cross tube is also hol bliss HK the TT plate.

It therefore needs a new front mount bracket or more likely two L brackets that allow the plate to sit further forwards. The back holes will have to be re drilled to line up to the rubber mounts. It's only about 10mm difference but enough to look scruffy and/or foul the balance pipe.

You've lost me now
Are you now saying your bash plate won't fit due to your down pipes not been fitted correctly?

It will fit but it looks crap and it will hit the Akra front cross tube. The only option if you have Akra headers is to drill the plate. If you got lucky and the pipes are totally symmetrical they will just need drilling about 10mm further forwards. Use button head bolts. I need to decide if its worth making new brackets for my TT bash plate or to put it back up for sale.

Although the pipes have sliding joints there is no real adjustment. As soon as the springs are fitted the sections will self align. In my case that put one pipe slightly further out from the engine case than the other side. With the standard bash plate it was not even noticeable. But the wider TT plate tucks around the pipes making the issue quite obvious.

Ive got an akro system and when i fitted the touratech bash plate it was touching the link pipe. I just bent the bash plate a bit on that corner so that it runs inline with the pipe. No re drilling or anything needed. You cant tell.

Thanks Andy

so for a TT sump its a close fit and if it doesn't quite make it its not a major problem to sort with a mallet to bend it a little into shape then?

anyone else fitted any other type of sump guard and encountered any problems

BMW Enduro bash plate?

The snag with straightening the bash plate with a few hammer thumps is that its likely to bend back onto the (far more) expensive exhaust headers. Moving it forward is surely the better option. But a plate that actually fits with the Akra is even better of course. Maybe it's worth an email to Akraprovic.

Mines been on for about 8000 miles now and not bent back. I tweeked it in a vice to bend it slightly. I'll have to take a photo I suppose.

Apologies if i'm off topic.
i made the comment to my BMW dealer that the Akra headers did not look symmetrical. They of course replied that this is normal as one cylinder is more forward than the other (forgot to reply that the OEM one is perfectly aligned too....). Is there any way to get them back aligned easily?

My headers are extremely thin wall tube & probably titanium so there won't be any vice adjusting methods. I bought them used so they could be stainless.
They are currently off the bike and inward angles are not symmetrical. Unfortunately the joints have seized so I can't try the cross tube in both ways around. I can't see any other way the connected pipes can adjust as that would need to affect the two T joint angles. Which of course are fixed.

Lets clear some things up. My headers are titanuim. Its a full akropovic system. Unlike the standard down pipes the link or balence pipe on the akro system does not run square across the front of the engine.I only noticed this when I fitted the touratech bash plate as it comes up around the exhaust pipes along the sides and front. It is then I realised that the akro headers link pipe sits at a bit of an angle and also the bash plate was touching the pipe. So I removed the bash plate. I then placed the front lip/facet/edge into a bench vice and tweeked it out over. I then re fitted the bash plate and found that it now cleared the link pipe but because the pipe isnt straight it was closer to the pipe at one end than the other. So i then removed it once more and put it back into the vice where i tweeked it out a bit more but more at one side. Re fitted and it clears the pipe. Although the front lip of the bash plate is bent out over at a slight angle ( from left to right) it looks ok as its only about 1/4" different. Like i said before i'll take some photos (soon).

Mine was off by more like 3/8" so is drill-able.

1/4" is too close to the original holes for re drilling but still too much to file them out. The slot would be huge. So it looks like bending the plate is the only realistic option.

Do give enough clearance. If that plate ever does hit something solid the last thing anyone wants is a line dinged into the header pipe.

anyone else got a different sump guard fitted with a set of Akro headers
had any issues with fitting?

heres some pictures. Like i said before , stick the front lip part in a vice and give it a good bending :weights
