Unfortunately my GS wasn’t ordered with heated grips or ABS. The ABS side of things doesn’t bother me in the slightest but as the GS and I are fast approaching our first winter together I’m starting to think more and more about the lack of heated grips. I recently investigated the cost of retro fitting a set of BM heated grips and was a little concerned to discover that it would cost me somewhere in the region of £200. This over inflated price is due to the fact that not only do you need to replace the grips but you also need to replace the switchgear. A set of Hein Gericke’s finest heated grips comes in at a rather more palatable £39 so being the tight arse that I am; this is the route which I think I’ll take.

Question is then, has anyone fitted a set of non OEM heated grips to an oilhead BM? What are the issues that I should be appear of? And finally, does anyone know if it’s possible to purchase the proper BM heated grips electrical connector that lives under the tank?

Any help or advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

http://www.mandp.co.uk/ are selling 1inch Piranha heated grips for under 30 quid - not sure if they fit the GS, but someone may know.

They are on the special offers page.

Bought a set of oxford hot hands last year as i didnt want to spend too much money and wanted a quick fit - 15 minutes. they velcro over your grips and can simply be unplugged and whipped off when required. they re only slightly thicker than your normal grips but youll get used to it. would recommend 100%

You can also use these to wrap around a grab rail & keep your pillion's hands warm.

My pillion finds much better ways of keeping her hands warm!

I bought new BMW heated grips, secondhand switch gear from Motoworks, all the wiring is in the bikes loom so I now have a factcory set up, costs a bit more than Oxford ones which are also very good. The othe option is to by after market ones and use the BMW connector under the tank so they off with the ignition ie no flat battery
