Puig Touring Screen
The Puig screen arrived yesterday and was extremely easy to fit; unscrew a few bolts, transfer the plastic mounts and a couple of grommits from the old screen to new, then screw back up a few bolts. Start to finish took less than 20 minutes. The new screen is a solid bit of kit and is a couple of inches taller than the stock GSA screen. My findings after 100 or so miles...
I'm 6'2", have the seat in the high setting, and the stock GSA screen at its highest setting too. I've never had issues with buffeting, but wanted to reduce wind noise over my helmet. At all height settings, the Puig Touring screen is quieter than the standard GSA screen. I don't know if that is because of its different shape, size, or the spoiler, but things are now far quieter and the bike's exhaust note can now be heard much more clearly. I was able to listen to music at a noticeably lower volume too.
At the screen's lowest setting I now have a small amount of buffeting against my lower chest, but my helmet is still a far quieter place. I've not played much with the angle of the spoiler so far, keeping it mostly straight out and parallel with the screen.
The not quite so good bit. Because the screen is larger than the original, and has the spoiler which creates even more resistance, the mounts are placed under more pressure and are given a good battering by the wind. The screen stays in place if at the very lowest or highest settings, but if somewhere in between, it is slowly forced by the wind blast back down to the lowest setting and can't easily be wound back up on the move. It is so much better than the original however that I am happy to leave it at the lowest setting for now, but I have ordered the reinforcing screen supports from Cymarc which are an extra cost I hadn't anticipated. If you're going to order the screen, or any larger than stock one, I think you need to factor in the cost of the extra brackets (or bodge an alternative).
Also, because the screen is bigger than the original, it will obscure your vision if in the upper third of adjustment, however it does not need to be anywhere near that height to work (in my case).
Total cost of screen and brackets is in the region of £175, and if the brackets work as well as I hope, I'll be very happy.
[Edited to add that the same screen fits both GS and GSA bikes according to the website]
