Right, as we know the rear unit on the 1200LC can fail at any moment sometimes without warning. Over the years I've had various after market suspension on my bikes, I've had hyperpro, WP, AST etc never ohlins for some reason.
I can appreciate better suspension and know when mine fails thats the way I will go.
My bike is a 2015 and I believe I have got a good one, done some training with Kevin Hammond at adventure bike training and he rode it and said it was one of the nicest GS's he'd ever ridden, so before you all say get a newer one thats not going to happen.
My bike gets used for everything, fast road, hard off road, two up touring and probably a trackday or two when/if this covid eases off. My preference though is off road riding and loaded up long distance camping trips.

My bike has the early ESA system so i get to choose one up, luggage or two up, plus soft, normal and hard. I like this set up as I have a bit more control than the newer systems but don't have the advantage of the active systems. I tend to run on soft most of the time unless two up or pushing hard.
I do find the ESA controller for preload etc very useful and the esa unit itself is very reliable.

What I have found so far researching is this;

Touratech; (made by tractive) is an out right purchase plug and play ready to go. 16mm rod Not cheap but still cheaper that OEM I think

Wilbers; These require you to send them your esa unit so your bike is off the road for two to three weeks, they do offer a 5 year warranty and are cheaper than touratech.

Ohlins: Need more research on these but from what I gather these are awesome but very expensive and seem to use a LCD display for road surface etc

Nitron: Looking on their website they only offer manual preload adjustment, seem very well made though and may offer the same service as wilbers by retro fitting existing esa unit, but not 100% sure.

I don't want this to turn into a non-esa vs esa thread please.

Thats as far as I've got so far, so any input, recommendations and real life experiences would be appreciated befor I shell out my hard earned.

TT suspension means you can just bung the old struts back on the bike when you sell. Expensive but worth it especially if for two up use.

Good point, I'm not one for changing bikes every 1-2 years, i'm intending to keep mine for as long as I possibly can, hopefully for another 5-10years at least.

Just give Denz0 on here a pm. He will rebuild the shock plus some upgrades.

I think if I replace the shocks I want a major upgrade like bigger rods and reservoirs, this can't be achieved with a standard unit.

Bigger is better. Which also means more unsprang mass. Not an issue on a GS/GSA.

I took this option instead of an upgrade to a 1250.
Really notice the difference between the settings too.

Thanks for the links, I definitely want to go away from emulsion units, looking at the pictures, the touratech internals are much more robust than the standard units. Also rebuilding the stock units means the bike is off the road, not an issue at the moment I know. I think the weight difference between a touratech/aftermarket unit and a stock unit will be far out weighed by reliability and ride quality.

I think the TT units fit all years of the LC.
Give them a call.
I fitted TT units because the OE were totally overwhelmed when fully loaded and the missus and I only weigh 145 kg combined fully kitted plus full vario luggage.
TT reccomended for the rear two spring weights up from their std, I went with one weight up as I thought the bike would be over sprung when riding solo as I never use the varios solo, just a aquapack strapped on the rear seat/rack. It has worked out as a good compromise, very happy with it. The front is the TT std weight spring.

Thank you. I think my buying options are now Cliffy at ABS?

2015 build so the same as yours.

Thanks, i weight about 100kg kitted up I reckon, definitely no more, I run the lightweight mundo luggage when touring, 30kg max including cases, so I'm thinking their standard weight spring, I always ride set on soft, does bottom out sometimes off road but not very often, at least I know i'm using the full stroke of the unit.

Friend of mine has his GSA rear EAS boing go at 24,000 miles while 2 up in Wales. He's very tall and heavy so bike was probably beyond it's carrying weight regarding the standard units already!!
He now has TT front and rear electronic units custom built to his and partners weight. He's very very happy with the way the bike handles now!!

Thanks for the feedback

Unless someone comes up with something different its looking like the touratech/Tractive units are the way to go. Better start saving then.

You can get the tractive suspension from Rally Raid. Not that far from me and close to Santa Pod.

Forgot about John, he used my old 701 to develop the hydraulic preload adjuster.

I was going to say this, I did a complete replacement on 2008 Hexhead, instead of the Touratech units I went for the Tractive units for various reasons (cheaper/less blingy and nickable/possibility to to a front EPA delete which TT doesn't allow). They work great and transformed the bike, all plug and play.

On the LC ESA, same unit same price.
