Ageing biker with arthritic digets need help!

Have 08 GS. Great!
Problem is I have arthritus in fingers and thumbs of both hands.
Braking and declutching ok but throttle and indicators can be very painful.
Ideas?

There's a similar product on sale in the UK. I can't remember what it's called though.

The uk one looks a little larger as well.
 
Would a pair of muffs help, i injured my fingers and found with a pair of muffs suplied by valh with the heated grip on was the way forward, im fixed now but they did the job
 
For me the Kaoko throttle friction device can take the load off my right hand in many situations, so both hands can be comfortably rested on top of the bars:thumb

Wish there were some aftermarket bars that turned back and down like old fashioned bicycle handlebars - it really does make a big difference when your wrists/hands can take up a more natural position

Don't know how bad your hands are but you might try having a look here. The guys managed to reprogramme the switches on a 1200 so that there all operated by the one. Might be worth asking about if nothing else works out.
 
Have a look at this trog. The Wunderlich throttle rocker. I have the same problem with right wrist and thumb and either use a neoprene sports support to keep it warm and aid circulation ( tight under a glove ) or the heated grips which helps a lot.

This genial little helper is a must for all riders.
It quickly mounts onto any twist grip, and reduces the load on the hand. It is easy to fit and remove (when not needed) and virtually indestructible.
On long trips the throttle hand fingers can get tired, the Throttle Rocker prevents this as now most of the pressure is passed on to the hand itself.
It is not only useful for the motorway use, sometimes the constant change of speed on twisty lanes can be tiring as well.
Even if you've got a cruise control system, the Throttle Rocker gives you an alternative, as it allows variable speeds.

Hi all,
Would like to thank everyone for their suggestions.
Am going to try the Wunderlich Throttle Rocker and keep the heated grips on.
Already full of prescription pain killers and daren't take anything else.
Have neoprene thumb strap but it won't fit under gloves.
Will look at revised switch gear if all else fails.

Has the 08 GS still got the really skinny grips on it? (I remember that beingthe first thing I really didn't like when I got on one)

I#ve seen plenty of people who have fitted lots of 'o'rings onto their grips to pad them out a little and return the diameter to 'normal'....that might be worth trying for you as it's obviously mean your hands aren't wrapped around them in such a tight circle, and it'd re-position your thumbs in relation to the rest of your hand a little. :nenau

Trogxx you should maybe get in touch with Ash of this site. Ash had a nasty off 4 years ago and has limited movement in shoulders, arms wrists and fingers (before the off it was just limited brain).. he has had many mods done to his former 1100GS and present 1150GS, and helpfull to you will be the fact that he tracked down all the bits he needed and therefor may be able to point you in the right direction. He is a friendly fellow.

I'm sure if you PM him he will help out.

+1 to Fanum's suggestion about the O rings covering on both grips. A friend has recently done this and finds the wider gripping surface more comfortable and less hand fatigue and callousing. Also keeps the OEM skinny grips from wearing out. Good luck.
