Air Hawk

http://www.bykebitz.co.uk/acatalog/ABOUT_AIRHAWK.html

I went for cruiser small. People think that a regular cushion or bit of foam is the same. It is not. If it was then they would be using that in wheelchairs and not the more expensive airhawk system. It's expensive because it works.

The air moves slowly between different chambers thus distributing the weight evenly which ultimately means there are no pressure points fixed in the one place for too long.

Like Puma the normal is good enough. Didn't think that neoprene cover would make an appreciable difference.

Does anyone know what size airhawks best suit the 800 for rider and pilion? :)
Cheers
I'm afraid you'll need two.
Personally I first bought the pillion small (11 x 9") but found it... a bit small!
So went for the cruiser medium (14 x 14") which "fits" better me think, and though my a*s is not large, I find that it's the perfect size. (good lateral support)

The cruiser pillion is (for sale) neoprene while the other one not. Can barely feel / tell the difference :eek

Cruiser medium is the one. Still trying to get used to rocking motion caused by these seats, jury is out at the moment.

Also have the cruiser medium. The secret with setting these up is to put in just enough air and no more. ..."too much disconnect between rider and bike" ... sounds to me like far too much air! You need to experiment a bit to get it just right. :thumb2

+1

Used the Airhawk system for the perimeter of Australia & Both Islands of New Zealand. Fantastic bit of kit but you must get the pressures just right for your weight and bum. We had the same reservations for the first few days. Once that's done, you may well be able to double your rideable distance in one day. We managed over 1,000km's twice and regularly covered around 700km's.

Still love using them now.

Good Luck.

I have just done two 400km rides with my new Airhawk small cruiser.
A couple of observations as a first time Airhawk rider.

First, I did not fix the Airhawk on the seat with the metal hooks of the elastic straps gripping on to the Airhawk cover. I hooked the metal ends together under the seat so somebody would have to cut the elastic strap to take it off my bike instead of just unhooking the metal ends and walking off with
everything.

Second, I found it easier to inflate the cushion part about half way and then slip it into the Airhawk bag/cover and then adjust the air with the release valve while I am sitting on the seat, and then screw the valve down tight, zip the cover/bag closed and ride away.

Third, You will feel the thing working, and on the BMW 658, due to the slope of the seat, you will find some rocking motion but not enough to worry about.
At least in my opinion.

Fourth, The thing does work. I could have done the two 400km legs in one day instead of two, and I found the very slight increase in height to be just enough to alleviate some of the problems with my knees.

Fifth, The claim that it helps keep you cool on the seat by circulating air through the flow through bag/cover is iffy. I did both rides in high humidity and around 34c and found only a slight improvement in "cooling". But for out and out comfort, I found it far better than the $450 BMW accessory "comfort seat" as it does not restrict your movement on the seat like the BMW accessory seat does. It is also $350 bucks cheaper.

I am becoming a big fan, but I hope to get a chance some day to try the 14 by 14 inch medium size cruiser to see if it makes more of a difference.

I got it on sale for $100 and I am happy with it. A friend of mine sat on it, adjusted it and immediately starting thinking about buying one for his Harley Sportster.

Yes, mine blew just before my off for Europe.

Still happy to have saved money with a nice cheap option. However now it seems I'm landed with the dilemma of Airhawk/upgrade seat. One of them has to give as I'm adding the mileage by the thousand] :JB

Sorry to be a spoilsport.....

My son and I did over 1100 Km in Spain (from Bilbao to Malaga region) on sports bikes in one day wearing good cycling shorts, with no problems. Not sure about extended use though. Hope this may help someone? :rob
