I’m off to visit a mate near Perth next week, he’s asked me to bring my air rifle (sub 12 fl lbs) to try and shoot a grey squirrel that’s started visiting.

I’m thinking I may not legally be able to as air arms are licensed in Scotland ?

Can anyone confirm the situation for visiting Scotland with an air rifle?

Thanks
Rich.

You found your answer. Can't see that shooting a grey squirrel would class as being "an event"

Why don't you just buy a crossbow and use that? Seems crazy but that's how the law stands at the moment.

You can’t use bows or crossbows in the UK for hunting or pest control.

write an invite from the landowner list the land in grid reference as a field target/ vermin control event with RAMS and have your insurance papers to one side.. you should be fine...

Or just call Police Scotland and ask them?

Having just read the link it seems all you need is a Visitors Permit.

For one Squirrel I wouldn't bother :D

another money making scheme for the popo

Fecking SNP, another stupid law no-one asked for :(
Along with minimum unit alcohol pricing (no evidence it reduced Scotland's drink problems) and banning "happy hours" and changing the drink drive limit, installing higher taxes - I could go on, but hopefully someone will (now the SNP have thankfully their grasp relinquished) reverse and bring back in-line with UK
SNP's legacy is a travesty

I know of a bloke who had a .22 rifle made to fit in a crutch to avoid having to license it, he pretended he only had one leg when moving about. He got it over the border hidden in the exhaust pipe of his car. I can't remember exactly what happened but I know he was hunting a frog not a squirrel but the principle will be the same.

You can’t bring it in to Scotland without a licence. You can contact the Firearms Licensing department in the area you’re going. I think Perth is in D Division they should have one there. You can get a temporary permit, timescale may be an issue and you’ll need a valid reason.

just chuck it in the boot of your car, say nothing, and dont get caught. You wont even see a cop. Maybe a speed camera van.

SNP got the racist anti english on board and did what they wanted.

The Grey's that came over from the USA carry a disease that kills the native Red's and Black's and are considered vermin.
