Air Shock Failures

Wings, could you share any details about replasing the front end. I mean fitting the wheel, brake, and triple clamp?
 
I have a bunch of photos but dont know how to post them.
The front end was done by Mike a Mechanic in South Africa who used to design BMW's in Germany, he's done a great job. My second HP2 is in at this moment having the conversion done.

We use KTM Works tripple clamps and motorcross closed cartidge 48mil forks.
The front end was very much re worked to fix the mudguard headlights etc. Mike has made the mudguard bars strong enough to pick the bike up.

A lot of work is needed to fit the origional front wheel as we have a few and i traded the soft rim for tubeless tyres, but Mike machined all sorts of bits to make it work.

It cost me in the region of 1,500 pounds.

The new forks have 315mm travel so with slightly longer front forks the bike is very comfortable for long distance touring.

I am impressed at the 80,000km mark with one shock thats good going, what do you weigh and do you carry luggage at all?

Wings, I'm just shy of 80kgs and, if it's relatively hard off-road riding tend, tend not to carry any additional weight on the bike (or at least limit the gear I carry to a tank bag with a few tools, tyre levers, spare tubes etc. and a back pack pack/camel back if it's a proper adventure) but no more than 10kgs or so combined. I run the rear shock at around 7 bar, which appears to be optimal damping/rebound in realtion to my front suspension set up. On longer adventures like a couple of weeks away down South, I might add a pair of throw over panniers and a rear bag for clothes and 5lts of spare fuel, etc. If I needed/wanted to carry 3 tonnes of stuff around with me and sport a pair of giant aluminum panniers I'd have bought a GS Adventure :blast Do like the look of your bike though, the front end conversion looks stock.

So here is a truly great South African Police man.
He was reading his news paper on a chair when we came through, you can see they are painting the lines behind us. As i walked through being slightly naughty i pretended to tread on the wet paint, from behind the paper we heard. "Ya Boet Tread on that and i'll take you to the middle of the bridge Fock you up, throw you in the river for the crocodiles and chuck your bikes in on top of you."
We ended up best buddies.

Wings - what have you done to modify the rear subframe? I also use the BMW Large Sportsbag but not so far back. Are you a member of the SA site Wilddogs? There are a number of enthusiastic HP2 owners who post on that site too. Where are you based?
 
The bag is on a Hepco Bekker rear carry rack i had a similar one made in Cape Town by Mike who replaced the front end. his is lighter and half the price. it brings the rear subframe together and strengthens the back of the bike. i do try to pack very light though. If you want one let me know as Mike has the second bike atr the moment replacing the fron end. He also replaces the headset bearings which is essential as the origional ones are useless.
