Air Tags - As a tracker on a motorcycle

I get the anyone can find out bit, but equally, if the opportunist nicks a bike and you have hidden the tag really well, causing them a lot of time and hassle finding it, it could be a decent back up. My son't school has a problem with school bags going missing and I was going to fit one of the air trackers (Elevation Tag Vault) to his which are designed to be stuck or sewn in.
TMF (Misserden Flyer) did a vid on using air tags on his bikes. According to the review, complete waste of time.

I use ATUVOS air tags for my luggage, but there are plenty of choices for trackers. Not all criminals are switched on, this one, although not bike related does make it rewarding to watch in the end. Some of it is pretty hard going, best have the volume low for parts of it.

He he he. Takes me back a while.

The ones who objected the most often had the most to hide. Trying to intimidate officers.

It makes the officers even more suspicious.

Pegase tracker works really well , updates the location every few seconds unlike the Monimoto which is every 5-10 minutes I believe. It’s just over £200 but there is NO subscription fee whatsoever and the app works great. You can set sensitivity to alsrt you if it is nudged , actually moved slightly or moved outside a defined boundary ( geo fenced) You can recorded your ride and send it to a biker mate as a .gpx file for his Nav to follow .

If you want a motorcycle tracker get one

Don't think 25 quid airtag is as good, in fact it's lunacy to even consider it

The Pegase tracker appears now to be called Flashbird

But always interesting to see peoples suggestions

That’s a new version with enhanced features and a small subscription fee, original version is free 👍

Problem we found with professional tracker installs is that most technicians will place the things in exactly the same spot on all vehicles, usually what is convenient for them or where it takes the shortest amount of time.
Thieves soon suss these locations out, you could fit one on a r1250gsa somewhere like between the frame and airbox but it takes a few hours of dismantling and reassembly which most people are not pay for when installing.
At work we had a quad that was set up to catch thieves that had two trackers fitted and they were all but impossible to find

Reviving this thread, did the OP go down any particular route?

Looked at the Teltonica site. I notice eBay sell a lot of refurbished ones for 20-30 of your finest for a basic tracker FMB920.
They seem very cheap. Has anyone got one of these installed?
It appears you only need a subscription if you want the tracker monitored but it’s free if you monitor yourself.

Im a Monimoto fan but had a few AirTags spare so decided to remove the speaker. If the bike was stolen they would be alerted that there is a tracker nearby but they would have to find it, there would be no sound emitted as the speaker is removed. Not amazing but better than nothing.

Little bit of duct tape and its sturdy & splash proof, add it behind a panel and forget about it.

Added a "how to"video over on the vlogs

…….thinking of securing an Apple Air Tag to each of my bikes in case of theft. Anyone tried this? Pros & Cons? They'd be well hidden away out of sight somewhere on the bikes. Seems as good on the face of it as a more expensive tracker subscription solution.

Moved (and mildly edited) from the GPS section.

A chap who leaves his KTM SX in a garage local to me had it stolen last year

6 months later he got it back complete all down to him fitting an Apple Air Tag
