Has anyone used either of these?

Was either any good?

Is the original Airhawk much better than the cheaper Airhawk 2?

Cheers folks

Regularly use the Airhawk and it's great. Never used the cheaper version but what I've heard is it's pretty good but not as durable. If your main long journey is a week or two in the summer for your hols the cheapie should be fine. If you do lots of long trips the expensive one will pay for itself time and time again.

I've got th expensive one and it is fantastic. It adds a smidgen to the height but the comfort is fantastic. Couldn't live without it now :thumb

Comfort GAlore

Hi,
DOn't know about the difference between the two....but I use mine for all longer rides and did 1400 miles for both the dry run and the actual PWA.....not a sore muscle or bottom in site!! It was great! Best money I have spent on "bike stuff" (except my waterproof trousers) yet!!

I was unsure about the Airhawk claims of improved comfort so just bought the cheapie Airhawk2 seat and have now used it for >8k. I used some velco loops (from Ikea) to attach it to the bike's frame rails.

Great product and really adds to riding comfort. When in Norway in June, most days I rode 6-9 hours in comfort. I never got that numb bum feeling which the standard saddle produces after a couple of hours.

I have got my seat in the low position and found that the Airhawk probably takes me back to about the standard seat height. Easy to adjust the height / comfort of the Airhawk however if you add too much air you feel a bit disconnected from the bike. Other riders who have tried my also Airhawk seem to like it.

buy one

I have the airhawk 2 and like everyone says its very good. Even if you decided after the 7 day return period you did'nt want it you could sell it on here or fleabay and not lose that much money. :thumb

I have the cheaper plastic (non repairable version)- and have repaired a puncture successfully with vinyl cement.

Would I buy the more expensive neoprene version?... I really do not know because cheapie Airhawk Budget Cruiser Medium £69.99 has been OK

My wife and I use them on long rides and wouldn't be without them
Highly recommended

As previously said, they raise your riding height a little though, so beware if you hafe short little legs :thumb

Interesting that Bykebitz say the cheaper version is non repairable :nenau

I've just fitted mine and done 120 miles by way of a test - absolutely bottom bliss. Yes, it did add a bit to the height but then I let some air out which solved the problem and increased the comfort. I also found with too much air in it that I felt rather detached from the bike. Having stopped for fuel I decided to let some air out and over did it so I had to blow it up a little. As you can imagine this drew some funny looks. Man apparently giving kiss of life to his motorcycle saddle and/or sniffing saddle.
Can't say I noticed much difference between the cheapy and the neoprene one
as far as comfort went but the neoprene one feels more substantial. You can try all of them at Bykebitz, they have a little seat affair you can put them on.

I have the cheaper medium cruiser and have recently returned from a 2500 mile trip around Europe.

The plan was to keep the airhawk on for the long journey days and remove when doing the passes in the mountains.

Stayed on all the time :D Sooooooo comfy. We all swopped bikes on the trip and everyone commented on how nice the airhawk was.

As you may allready know... the trick is to get the minimum amount of air in the cushion to just get your bum of the seat. I started by over inflating and letting air out as I was riding untill it was spot on :thumb

So basically it's an overpriced li-lo then :D

Yep... and just like a li-lo.. the cheaper one IS repairable with li-lo repair kits
. But that depends where it is damaged. If damaged on a flat area, then a simple patch is easy. If damaged aling a seam, then repair may be very difficult.

BTW.. they do not need tying on because they have a non slip underneath which keeps them in position when needed.

They let me try the various sizes on my own bike first just to make sure i got the right size. Afterall its alot of money to spend, but after a 1200 mile trip, well worth it. :thumb

Save your money on after market seats and buy the (original) Airhawk. It's good for 12 hour days, and more, and you can move it from bike to bike. The trick is to have the absolute minimum amount of air in it that you can get by on - that is, only inflate enough so that when you are actualy SITTING on it, the top and bottom don't touch, if you catch my drift. One light breath should do it. Used this way, the extra height is almost negligible. I use the "Medium Cruiser" model on the GSA12 and it conveniently also fits the pillion seat for SWMBO, mores the pity. Expensive? yes - until you try one.

How is an airhawk different than say, a £4.99 inflatable cyshion from Millets? Is it something to do with all the little compartments? I am not on about the material used, but in performance and how it works?

Re the last I made my own version with an infaltable cushion, it worked ok & looked crap, I then bought the real thing and it was 100's of times better, so much so that I bought a second one s/hand from the forum for my wife.
Allow easy 500 mile plus days and you can still walk afterwards

I used the airhawk on a 5000 mile trip around Eastern Europe and my arse would have died without it!

Air Hawk

I stole one from Schiannini at the Garmisch WOB event this year, and it is fantastic.

If nobody tells him I've got it, it will continue to give me hours of comfy-bum riding. :bow

I have heard people saying it has made them feel detached from their bike, but as has already been said, it is vital to ensure that the minimum amount of air is used.

You just gotta buy one, or steal where necessary.
