airhawk - anti gypo/pikey securing??

hi,

i recieved an airhawk this morning and i read that you can secure the airhawk so no one can walk off with it - mine has some elastic straps but they just hook on so someone can have it away in about 1 min - how do others secure the pad to the bike??

obviously ignoring the fact they can just unzip it and remove the air bladder:blast
 
I just unhook the pad and leave the straps hanging, put pad in panniers and lock them.


When I can be bothered that is.

I unhooked the seat cover and put the Airhawk under it and sealed it back onto the base with the original staples. Time consuming and ugly coz it makes the seat look like it's got the mumps. But as I don't give a sh*t it worked for me.

Naff straps

I can't believe how flimsey and naff the straps are on this £130 item! I've seen bra-straps with more holding power and they've proved much harder to remove ha ha :augie:thumb

Suppose you could 'bodge' on something more substantial, like webbing straos but still means you'd have to remove the thing.
 
I don't have anything useful to say about securing the seat thing.

I do not like the pejorative subject line.

I would guess that if any 'non' theiving gypo/pikie complains then he will receive an apology, maybe, if the poster so wished.

No. I work with looked after children. The kids come from all sorts of backgrounds. Inevitably some of the kids are from the traveller subset of the population.

The word "gypo" to someone from this subset of the population is offensive, much in the same way as calling someone from Pakistan a "Packy" or a black person a "nigger". There has been recent press coverage over the increasing use of the word pikey, too.

The case law made using the Race Relations Act supports this point of view. If someone made a complaint about this thread then there could be inconvenient consequences.

Mea culpa. I was referring to the use of gypo as the pejorative word. See my other post where I mention the attention that the use of the word pikey is receiving. See http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7446274.stm triggered by Martin Brundle referring to pikeys. So far the word has not received any attention in the courts. We live in an increasingly litigious society so the time will come.
 
To get back to the original topic if anyone is interested... :augie

I have had an airhawk (plastic version) seat on my GS for the last six months - secured by running velcro ties around the loops on it and then around the seat rails underneath the seat. Is then covered with a sheepskin pad - not been touched in all that time but I guess it does depend where you are going to leave it. I rarely park in towns. Best thing is just to keep riding the bike!

I'm not going to complain to the authorities, beyond our own moderation team: somebody from the ethnic group mentioned would need to complain for it to get "inconvenient". It only needs an enterprising law student trying to make a name for him/herself to do a search on google for potentially litigious words.

come along to the Park Hotel Sauvage in Meiringen at the end of next week, 19th or 20th: I can show you what a good tosser I am ;)

If I don't see you in person then hopefully this forum will still be running by the time I get back rather than being closed down by a court injunction.

There are probably a few gypos and pikeys reading this forum - so they can find where the bikes are and nick 'em.

yep cheers for the info i was looking at doing something similar myself - ill see what i can come up with and let you know.
