Airhawk cushion for £15

Under 12 stone and both deflate as i said. seems on mine the air escapes from the parts which are glued together sort of like where buttons would go on a cushion...

I understand where you mean. I guess these are welded. If this proves to be a common failure it would be useful to know (if you can remember!) when you bought it in case it is a faulty batch scenario.

Let Down !

Hi All,I was seriously happy to hear of these so bought one.
Travelled into France,Bum very happy but started to ache again after a while. At next stop found it had gone down, blew it up carried on,it went down ! Tested it at destination and the circular weld at the top centre on the valve side had a leak.Told Putnams on my return, they sent me a new one,no argument.GUESS WHAT !! Same thing on this one ! :blast

E-mailed Putnams, explained problem and asked if they would like me to send them both back as I believed it to be a manufacturing fault,I said I wasnt after a freeby but they should look into it.This was two weeks ago,so far no reply whatsoever.
I'm a little disappointed with this as they seemed so good in the first place.
With regard to them staying in place etc,no probs at all,I took out the little white plastic thingys and the wife fitted elastic straps, brilliant ! Its such a shame that I had this let down (in more ways than one ) because I genuinely believe that they will do a good job if only they would stay up !!

Anyone else had this problem ? Maybe mine were from a bad batch or something !! :(

Mark, sorry didnt see your remarks dooh !!:augie

As above mate,I'm 13 stone, exactly same circular welds that have given in,are yours in the same area ?

I've had two replacements from Putnams. Seem like nice people and they replaced mine without question and without return or proof of purchase.

On the other hand, the quality is rubbish all three have now failed and I've given up on them

I was in Austria with group of 7 bikes and between us we'd been through 10 stadium seats. Two even failed during the 2 week trip.

I wouldn't bother.

arrived today and fitted, time will tell.

just a thought for all those that failed, THE VALVE AREA. Is it because the valve was not "pushed in" so it is flush with the material. If not I could see the valve being bent over at 90 deg and stressing the material in that area.

Got mine fitted anyway under Benji (sheepskin). It fits a treat, so time for a blast...:thumb2

Half inflate if that..so that your not rocking back & forth out of sync with bike.

The inflation should be minimal. To pick mine up you would think it had no air in it, but when you put both hands on it when it is in position and press you can feel the air in it. Your bum should `hovver` JUST off the seat, no more.
Mine is still going stong by the way. Discoloured a bit through use, but no deflation.
It may not be significant, but I have the valve pressed in (as it should be) and on the underside on the front right as you sit on the bike. If you had the valve at the back I guess your arse would be directly on the valve which may, or may not, cause a problem.

I have just bought one of these from Putnams. Good service from them and prompt delivery.

My first impressions are that it is more comfortable than the AirHawk I've used for a couple of years. It's bigger and spreads the load over a larger area, (no sniggering please!). Yes, the correct way to use it is with the absolute minimum of air in it so your bum just about contacts the seat.

I see there have been a few failures on here, but I also see that Putnams have replaced without any quibbles. You can't argue with that!

The real deal-breaker is that the Putnams cushion costs about 1/10 the price of the basic AirHawk!!! :aidan

I'm a happy, (comfy) bunny, :beerjug:

Have to admit i would have given it a punt before i bought an Airhawk if I had known... but... the expensive Airhawk is very well made and it just gets left on my bike inside and out and I use a bungy to hold it on with for quick release.

Bought mine from a US site when the exchange rate was good as i think UK ones are a bit over the top!

Mentioned it to a guy on the canals in Scotland who did some big trips and he just said "bubblewrap". Even cheaper and free if you save your eBay stuff:D

tesco are doing an inflateable pillow for £2.50 in their camping section at the moment - made me think of the airhawk - hold it onto the seat with some no more nails and away you go:thumb2

my local pound superstore does back support inflatable pillows, they are similar to the putnams ones. I did about 3000 miles on my last one, must go back and stock up. They also have two seamed holes in them, I used these to hook cable ties through to keep it to the seat, but might use softer elastic next time round, as I think the roughness of the cable tie caused a puncture.

totally solved my numb bum problem. Gonna top it off with sheepskin on payday.
