Hi guys,

just pondering the seat question again, and wondered if anyone had tried an airhawk on a standard seat and had much success?

I'm using an Alaskan sheepskin and it's ok for about 1 hour on the road - so i'm going to try to get a seat altered by Tony Archer to make it wider where you sit

The the crux IMHO, the seat isn't wide enough at the rear, where you plonk your bum:tears

Yes - but get the small one, I think it is the pillion pad. Otherwise the air escapes to the sides where there is no seat and you end up having no air between you and the seat. I use the same small one on my KTM 950 SE and it works well.

I remember watching Nick when he and I rode to the HUMM. He was definitely squirming a lot more in his seat than I was. I may have a higher pain threshold, or a different shaped arse, but it seemed that I was having an easier time than Nick. I had a sheepskin over a low seat while Nick had an airhawk on a standard seat. The problem with the standard seat is that it is too narrow. the low seat is flatter and spreads the load better. I now have a Tony Archer seat; definitely more comfortable for every day use but I haven't tried it on a long journey yet. When I do, it will still be with the sheepskin.

Interesting.....................you say the low seat is flatter, I will have to find mine and compare

Any chance of a pic of your Archer seat - so we know what we're aiming for

You're bloody right:thumb....just measured a low seat and it's 1.5-2" wider where your bum goes when seated than the high standard seat....................never noticed before

Put it on and it's definitely wider, in front of the hump and miles easier to get my feet down (I had forgotten:blast)

Many thanks.............................don't forget a pic of your Archer seat though:clap

Well after a couple of hundred miles on the low BMW seat, it is definitely more comfy and being lower, it has transformed the bike for me

I now feel 'in' the bike, rather than on it and the bike no longer tries to 'eject' me when I take me bum off the seat offroad or at junctions etc

Thanks for that JB, i'll make the effort to dig one out.

Missed one on ebay last night :blast

i use the low seat and have experimented with an airhawk on that, i find the low seat comfortable enough for my trail riding/rallies etc, the airhawk is more comfortable for sure but i find it lifts me higher into the air flow which i dont like so much. the last time i used it was also the first time i had a fast throttle on the bike ... led to an uplanned wheelie or too as i "moved" on the airhawk .. maybe too muxh air methinks
