Airhawk seat cover

Hi Has anyone out therer fitted an air hawk seat cover to their 1200gs?
I find that on long trips I get a bit of Numb-Bum and so am after al little more comfort.
If so did you get the Large or medium and can you give an opinion of their suitability to the job ?
Im not sure if the subject has been covered before on the forum but I am fairly new to GSs and the site.
Any thoughts would be very welcome

i haven't tried the Airhawk due to the cost of them, but I got a "stadium seat" from Putnams http://www.putnams.co.uk/travel.htm which is a similar idea and a bargain at £10. With the right level of air in it (just enough to support you) it does a pretty good job. The biggest problem with the Putnams one is they have become so popular with bikers that sometimes they are out of stock!
 
Sorry seadog I have tried that again with no success and have put Airhawk seat covers into the search with the same result---- I think it must be me but thanks for trying

Try searching for airhawk rather than airhawk seat cover and you may have more luck, better still search in the equipment and toys section of the forum to narrow down the results :thumb

Medium Airhawk is the one you will need .... top bit of kit. Did an 800 mile day using mine. Couldn't have done it without one :thumb
 
The airhawk is excellent product. I get a sore bum very quickly and have tried almost everything including a Sergent seat, lambswool seat cover and adjusting the seat - high position on the front and low an the back.

The best result was:
Seat set high on the front and low on the back
Airhawk
Lambswool seat cover over the airhawk.

I have, however, modified the airhawk so I can adjust the pressure without removing the lambswool cover from the seat. The adjustment of the airhawk can take a while to find the most comfortable seating pressure. Some like it soft, others harder.

I got mine from USA about 18 months ago, which after shipping and tax came in at £85. It was so good I bought one for the rear as well. Did 3000 miles around europe without any problems and the wife had broken her coxcyxx 3 months earlier-what a trooper!
 
I bought one 3 years ago and it took a bit of time to work out how much air I needed to suit my weight etc. It was comfy but being a shorty it made stopping on a camber a bit dodgy. I used it a few times and its been sat in the garage unused ever since, £25 and it's yours!

I have one & it's great

Hi Peter,
If you put in the effort, you won't be disappointed.
It takes a while to figure out the "correct" air pressure. Once you do, however, you won't notice it at all.
You'll then be wondering why the others are complaining when you don't have any pain at all.

I've done about 60,000 Kms on mine including 13,000 Kms in 11 days & it's just great. (Once you get the pressure right for you)

Yep, I agree

Yep, I got an airhawk for my R1200GS and it was truly brilliant.

A few words of wisdom............

1. Read the instructions - you hardly need any air in it at all. Don`t do what i did and blow it up like a balloon :blast

2. It is a lttle disconcerting at first - you feel quite `wobbly`. don`t worry, this is fine and you`ll soon get used to it.

3. Get one to fit your seat size - don`t be tempted to go for the biggest one.

A piece of kit that actually works

Just to say I agree with all the good reviews. Its a clever and well made piece of kit that actually really works *( unlike all the touring screens I ve bought for the GS)
Essential if you are touring and really not too expensive when you realise just how good it is. As mentioned don't put too much air in but over a few days keep letting small amounts out until you find the perfect ride.

I pass WGC daily I could have dropped off mine for a decent period nto trial it.

I've used an airhawk on several bikes. Thats the beauty really, its transferrable, and very very comfortable. You need just enough air to fill the spaces around where your backside would normally touch the seat, this provides the support and spreads the pressure around your rear end, and then add just a smidgeon more.This makes it nice and comfortable without adding to the seat height, well about a couple of thou.

I now have a Tony Archer seat on the front so 'er indoors uses it on the back.

Downsides.
Fabric cover retains moisture
Nickable
Not the prettiest farkle
