Hello,

I'm adding a kick starter to a post 1980 5 speed airhead transmission for a customer. Specifically the end cover is from a 1989 R100GS. I have a non-kick starter transmission end cover that I want to drill. Does anyone know the diameter and depth of the relief cut for the kick starter shaft seal? Please see the picture. If anyone has an old end cover that they could measure for me, It would be greatly appreciated!

Regards,

Ben

Ben,

I had one on the bench recently, but its now back with the owner :blast.

However, The kickstart shaft oil seal lies flush with the face of the cover, so I would machine it to the depth of the new oil seal (I assume you have one - if not I'll go and measure one of my spares :thumb).

Hope this helps.

Bob.

(Ian, this isn't your box which is from a Paralever and has a different output shaft oil seal :augie).

Thank you Bob. I do have an oil seal to measure to get the depth. I could just measure the seal's dimensions to get the needed relief dimensions but I thought that I would ask around first.
