No mention of XR650R forks? I've fitted them to my paralever, bottom head bearing is the same, a 25mm thick top hat spacer (IIRC) at the top and 75mm (again IIRC) preload spacers inside the fork legs so they were the same length as the original BMW forks. The 320mm supermoto disc on the cross spoke wheel needed a rotor bracket and wheel spacers made.

I thought I'd posted threads about it on here but I don't seem to be able to find them.

Ok you World need to use a longer rear schock 10mm longen than the Stock bmw Don a wp one wich will Lift the backend by 30mm . If you use a km yockes that needs to me alter to fit i have drone a Plan if need be jeher my exaustes Are all Custom made this one is up for Grabs original i have also just a endcan with conechting Pipe thier if that all anbody is After one

Costs

I don't think that creating an HPN-like bike needs to be that expensive

you can get there with 3 steps:

- fleabay front end + fork overhaul/respring
- extended center/side stands
- extended rear end + new shock

Rob is right that the rear extension is the hardest/most expensive of the above to get right.

Costs go up if this is a pretext for a bike refurb and you start thinking "while i'm at it..." and you get carried away with engine mods etc.

I am not convinced you need the frame reinforcements. Sure there is no downside to having it done, but for solo ridding w/o heavy luggage I think you can get up and running without.

I think you right Ras . I am willing to do the frame and swingarm mods with my friend fabricator and another of my friends have a fully equipped metal workshop with cnc laser cuting and so on machines so that should be a massive help .
Major expense in my opinion would be rear shock absorbers as I don't really see any alternative but just spending lots on a new pair of up to speck ones ( unless you could sugest something) .
Other then this it's a large tank but I found one on fleabay but I don't know what to think about it .

Hi Rob no I have a spoked wheels with been redone with a stainless spokes so if I go ahead with the build I propably sell them and just get a hub for the rear and another rim to match a complete front end of some sort .

Most people who say it's a waste of time have never rode or seen a well modified airhead in action
All I can tell you is this is mine...I have done stacks of off road on it and it's a peach :thumby:
Well worth the time money and effort...Correctly set up they are a blast to ride
If you fancy one ...Get your money out and do the job properly ...You won't regret it :thumby:

I don't think anybody has said its a waste of time Garry. Just being being cautionary about underestimating the amount of money and work involved in doing it properly.

Hey Ras... did you every install one of Richie's extended shafts? I'm curious about the height compared to stock. I'm kind of thinking you only used your Tag rear end.

Hey Ras... did you every install one of Richie's extended shafts? I'm curious about the height compared to stock. I'm kind of thinking you only used your Tag rear end.

bike above has the TAG alu +100mm swing arm. I only rode the Moorespeed extended swing arm (HPN style) for a brief while on my 80GS before I mothballed the bike.

My impression is that the TAG is higher than the Moorespeed, but this is because the TAG SA can deal with more suspension travel c.265mm vs c.235mm and I put in a shock that prioritised suspension travel over ride height.

I am putting my 80GS back on the dirt shortly, which will be with the Moorespeed +100mm , so will be able to confirm the above

Hi Ras
Did you go for all of the enging relocating mods that TAG do or you just swapped the swingarm ?

I have a TAG frame with all the mods, but think that you can easily fit it onto a standard frame as well. In order to get max suspension travel out of a mono lever you need to modify the tube above the swing arm to allow for the greater movement

the TAG frame mods are 'standard' strengthening additions but also changes to improve handling (engine relocation and change in rake). As mentioned before is handles really great, but have not ridden a OEM frame with same suspension set-up enough to give you a real comparison.

The TAG swing arm is alu and is a bunch lighter than the OEM extended. Since this is unsprung weight it should make a difference.

Bartek

if you seriously considering an extended mono bike, you should ask Richie Moore to quote you for the swing arm extension.

It will cost you more than doing it with a mate, but you will sleep well at night that he will do a great job on an important part of the bike
