Limp wristed Aussie continues.....

G'day,

Seems a few of us Limp Wristed Airhead pilots are comong out of Le Closet no?

Another thing I did was take a knife to the oversize toilet-roll size rubber grips and take them off - leaving the heated bar elements intact (oooh they're all nice an' warm).

Next I wrapped a layer of squash/tennis racquet grip replacement tape over.

Result: soft - grippy - not so bulky - replaceable.

How limp wristed is that!@#?

Note: I am originally from.....Yorkshire....where we're....er.....tough.....maybe:beer:

squash/tennis racquet grip replacement tape

interesting.....

how long has it / does it last?
what do you do for the ends?
what sort of temperature extremes does it have to put up with?
any pics?

we demand to know these things! :rob

And so you shall !

-the raquet tape handlebars have been on the bike 18 months with no repair needed to date

- the bar ends are covered with a bit of rubber mat cut to a circle and glued on

- temperature extremes ecouncountered are as per Aussie winter/summer - about zero C in the mnts to +35 C in the summer city temps

- won't win any concourse comps but then again....here's a few pics of the bars plus the bike and oh.....a sneak pic of Fat Gretal's garage mate...Honda XR600R aka the Slutty Bitch (she loves it when she has her neck wrung!) :D

Well there are 2 things that strike me about your bike (inaddition to the grips whick look fine:thumb

1. I have never seen a GSPD with instruments on like you have ie. A small rev counter and clock mounted like that and
2. There is something about the handlebar switchgear that is totally different than mine (which is a 93 model). Are these after market parts or original.

Anyway - I like the initiative you ahve used with the grips - nice one:clap

The first PD's had that dashboard and switchgear Andy. The earlier PD spray job was much better than the later one as well. You could even buy it in primer so you could spray it yourself

Venhill superlight cables all round and one of the schneider "flip-a-lever" throttle locks. Lovely.

Handlebar switchgear looks like my '88 R100GS

AFAIK (Rob - can confirm?)
the new switchgear started with the '91 models.

mines a '90 reg. but apparently a '91 model and has the newer switches....

which are far better....:augie

:D

The best thing

the best thing about these PD's is the little glovebox thingy in the tank!

Don't get me wrong....nice old gal that she is....but whoever thought of that mini-boot on the tank is a legend!:thumb2:thumb2

Maybe start a "what do you keep in yours" thread .....for me it's sunnies, tyre pressure gauge, mozzie zapper, map, visor wipes, dust mask, allen key for quick change of nadlebar position (standing/highway), stubby driver for suspension rate change, UHF CB for emergencies. that's it!

Shown here with "boot" open.

Learning all the time... I quite like the look of the mounting bracket you have for the Givi plate on the back, anything you would like to share with us on that one:augie

Can you send us some of that weather too:thumb

Andy-the pic was taken the first few days after I bought it....I hate topboxes with a frenzy so ripped it off and the slidey horrible dual seat with it...don't want to encourage the missus to come riding with me! :hide

Now it has the single seat with rack and the Technoflex shock reservoir/adjuster tucked tight in on top where I can fiddle with it easily.
A pair of canvas side pouches for the waterproofs and tools/recovery gear leaves the flatbed free for a soft overnight bag - or to use as a picnic table :)

Oi Butch Cassidy, I'll have you know I have the wrist of an 18 year old Olympic gymnast, but my barrister says the court case is looking doubtful and I may have to give it back! Looking at all the options! :pullface

Things sound pretty positive so for, may order a couple of sets and ry them myself :thumb

Any one else in the Limp Wrist Brigade BTW?
