I have a tank that has the petrol cap locked in and no key. Besides drilling the tumbler out or as in 'Snowbums' article, drill a small hole to jam the lock, would a locksmith be able to open it?

I'm no expert but I would say almost definitely yes but, will that solve the problem as you still wont have a key. Is there a number inside or something or do you change the lock once open? Have you tried other keys in the lock? You may be surprised as to what will fit. One other thing (and I don't mean to patronize) are you sure it is locked? Sometimes and almost always if you don't lubricate the mechanism the tank filler cap will stick. When it's fitted to the bike, you can tie a bit of string around the cap then around the back of your neck then pull gently as you turn.

Sorry, you knew all that :blast. Good luck. I bought a new steering lock mechanism ages ago and still haven't fitted it. Right, on the to do list and sorry to those, all that time ago, who were keen to know how it went. Someone kick my ass. I'm getting lazy and forgetful. :rob
