airhead project build (with pictures)

well at least today i decided that its more about getting it right rather than build it to a budget of a fashion ,as allways stated like most on here we dont have tons of money so it is to a budget of sorts ,i would like some of the knowledge and skills of some in this section ................no names mentioned ,but i think i will learn a lot for the next one :blast

How far from Maidstone are you Dave?

todays progress ,gearbox is out i am just ready (with help) to lift the engine out i did notice a small amount of oil )about an egg cup full) that leaked out from the rubber boot when i took it off and the gearbox was really cruddy i will post some before and after pictures .i hope the oil is not a bad sign as it just seems its going to cost more money ,as they say when buying ,buyer beware

only to the metalwork shop near me to get some 60mm 40 mm washers to blank off the head stock and the wheel bearings before the powder coaters ,today i put the tank and the single seat and sub frame back on to have a look ,i think i am going to cut the sub frame and shorten it and remodel the single seat to make it lower and recover it in brown leather or suede (ill go to a charity shop and buy an old jacket and cut it up ) .
carbs have been apart and back together ,but may go to the cleaners ,i have allso made a tool for holding the flywheel .
done some more cleaning of bits ,and tommorow or saturday i will tackle the seized bolt in the fork leg i have been soaking it in plus gas for three days .
i am trying to do most of the work myself as i am down to my last £8000 in savings so i will be doing it on a month to month basis with my £200 a month spending money .

so it may take some time ,i am just waiting for my corbin saddle for my 1150gs to arrive so i can fit that ,after a good cleasn and polish of course !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good idea about charity shop, I was going to do a similar thing with the gs . while looking for a sofa on eBay realised there's loads of dirt cheap uncool leather sofas with good leather going for a pittance . Glad your not bored of it yet , I had the feeling there maybe another unfinished project for sale :augie
How come your pocket money's gone down ? Thought you got £250 ?

Where did you get the 1150 from, colour ?

no its allways been £200 ,its a yellow gs non std colour but very nice in fact its mint condition and even came with a zumo 440 sat nav (which may be going cheap if you know anybody who wants a cheap one plus bike mount ) brand new remus plus y piece ,hid lights ,better screen ,crud catcher ,luggage plus two top boxes, full service history plus origonal tool kit ,and ive just bought a corbin saddle not cheap but good ,plus lots of other bits

Sounds like it could be one of my old bikes :D

Have you put plus gas on your chrimbo list ?

i am not even going to go into what i drilled /drifted out on one of the fork legs ,yes i give a pozi drive head screwdriver tip part of a helicoil and a broken bolt, not a great photo but this is what came out of the fork brace hole in the leg

well the bikes back on the lift and i have made another start on some bits ,i am making a rear section behind the single seat from foam which i have shaped and i will soon glass it up ,i have made and welded a short sub frame ,and have carved a new side panel from dense foam which i will then glass over ..
yes i could have bought a vonzetti rear sub frame and seat etc but i am trying to see how much i can make myself .
it may not be every ones style but 85% of the bike i see have the same subframe and flat seat look which i want to get away from ,ive got several other ideas some may work out some wont .

ok before you ask i will get some pics ASAP as they say
