... You know- those black rivety things. I believe they are still available from MotorWorks; do they need some kind of special tool to install them? If so, where can I get one/borrow one?

All mine are still intact but after 30+ years they have gone a bit slack. It is possible to tighten the more accessible ones but I'm wondering if it would be better to replace them all instead.

I was changing from a tall screen to a standard one so they all had to come out. I think I ended cutting the heads off some of them with a sharp blade to prevent damage to the OE screen.

Suggest that you have a spare set ready to go before you start anything ;)

Originally they were small brass hollow tube type insert.
That needed a special two piece tool that you inserted one part through the centre and the other part screwed into and peened the hollow brassy parts over.
A gorgeously made tool for such a small job, but a joy to use.

And the black plastic plugs have a small centre section that you push in and the plastic plug then pulls out.

Ah- there's the rub- there are so many different ones on eBay, the problem is which ones to go for, it's hard to say.

Having said that, I'm thinking that the ones I need are

Whaddyareckon?

And what special tool will I need?

PS just realised that this rivet type is just like a pop rivet, would the insertion tool be something like that, perhaps?
