Had to remove my swing arm to replace the front shaft/gearbox gaiter which had split. Also needed to change the whole swing arm, because my re-buildable drive shaft wouldn't fit! Pretty simple job overall, and also needed to replace the "cup" on one of the Motorworks replacement swivel bearing, which had popped when we fitted it-too much grease and it burst the end off the cup.

On removing the old cup, the brass looking inner part of the swivel bearing(off-side) looked very badly worn, with deep gouges in it; the male "pin" was also worn, but not as badly as the cup. These bearings were installed in Nov 2015, and have only done 6000 on-road miles.
So, my point being - has anyone else fitted these MWorks replacements, and how have they worn? They should be an ideal improvement for the rather cheap looking (but not cheap to buy at £56 a side) BMW needle bearings, in a plastic case!

My other complaint or observation - fitted the new front gaiter, which is always a real bugger, with a supposed genuine BMW one, from MWorks (again, not cheap -around £16). Finally got it fitted on the gearbox end, only to see that it had split, near the shaft end! So one brand new, BMW gaiter never even made it onto the road. And before some smart arse mentions it, No, we didn't use a screwdriver of any othe sharp metal implement to assist; just perseverence, experience and swearing, which is usually enough to fix most things- couldn't fit a hammer in there sadly!

So - my conclusions- bearings are either from a faulty batch, faulty manufacture, or crap metal, or all three, and might well be unfit for purpose. There has been a post of a similar nature in the 1100 Oilhead section -
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php/438221-Bevel-box-bearings
so it's not just me.
Second conclusion - rubber bits from MWorks are not made from decent rubber- saw a post on Adv Riders Forum, where they reckoned that the rubber used now is not sufficiently UV resistant. No idea if that's either true or relevant. And the gaiter I ordered and fitted was meant to be a genuine BMW part. I know that Gary from BAMW was complaining about the push rod seals he fitted to a 90S and took to Spain had split after a very short time on the bike -they were from MWorks.

Please don't think I'm trying to have a pop at MWorks, 'cos they are always friendly, patient and helpful, and we'd all be a lot worse off without them. However, it's no help to anyone if the parts aren't up to scratch, and I have let them know about my concerns. And they have been kind enough to replace the dodgy gaiter for me.:thumb2

Interested to hear of any similar experiences or suggestions.

Dont even get me started on this. And as for the float bowl gaskets that they supply......

Oh yes, forgot all about the float gaskets! Had those spring leaks just by staring at them. Very inconvenient.
Where do they get these from? China or what?

Roger.

Has the gaiter got the BMW logo moulded into it with a part number?

Hi Roger, I buy all the rubber parts direct from BMW. I had fork gaiters last 2 days from a none genuine supplier. You will be surprised at what is still available for the old models from Bmw direct.

I have to import all my parts anyway, and anyhing that is on the BMW parts fiche Bobs BMW dont seem to have any problem getting for me, and everything seems to be genuine BMW parts.
Not a lot of difference in price to Motobins, but hard to compare as Motobins didnt have a listing on most of the parts I needed when I was replacing the electricals on my G/S
