I'm forever letting myself down, putting my foot in it, missing the obvious, so....what the hell is it? and whats wrong with it? :)
I'm guess by the size and title its a carb part.

Andy As my Old Granda used to say:- "Only a Foolish man doesn't ask questions!"

They should both look the same but for some reason the one on the left has a very badly worn groove which when the slide lifts the needle does not lift properly and will screw the fueling up at lower revs

And what the hell caused that...? A hammer...?...:)

Oooh… I've never seen that happen before.

The wear on the upper part of the needle looks like it's been 'rubbing' in the needle jet, perhaps causing a bit of stiction that's allowed the cir clip to 'slide-hammer' the top of the groove each time the slide has lifted.

I suppose the jet gumming from yukky modern fuel could cause the needle jet to effectively reduce in size?
