Got an '89 R100gs which was pulled out of a barn last winter, where it had lain for the best part of 15 years - was last taxed in '93.
I got Blue Bell to re-commission it in the spring and have covered 3-4,000 miles since.
It's got 37,000 on it now, and the gearbox has the dreaded rumble until the clutch lever is pulled in, think it needs new bearings etc.
Guess I might as well get the valves changed while I'm at it....

The question is, who do I get to do it for me?

Maybe 'Boxerman' in Leicester, he certainly knows his Airheads. Had mine done there before, good bloke

Phil at Euroclassics did the box on my R100R a few years ago - when I picked it up the box seemed to change gear so much smoother!

Traditional good old fashioned service.

Seconded - Phil's an absolutely top bloke and Dinah, his wife, makes a top cup of tea!

Thanks for the input

Thank you all for the list of names, I will be making contact over the next few days.

mine did that when I bought it about 5 years ago. I had a bit of a panic and posted here to be told that they all do that, and it still does, 15,000 mls later

Thats knocked 500 euros off your asking price :D

Are we talking about the knocking when your carbs aren't setup properly - the horrible "tack, clunk" noise or the "sushing" sound when front input bearings on it's way?

My R65GS gearbox makes no noise at all, clutch in, clutch out (shake it all about....?), thats part of the reason I need to get the R100 looked at. When the bike was re-commissioned the thrust bearing was changed, as it had stuck after years of non-use, and the rumble is to 'heavy' to be clutch related, there's also a whine in fourth gear, and the change up and down is much more clunky than my 65.
It's always a little difficult to explain and diagnose over the inter-web-thingie, and I sometimes fret a little, so until I've had an expert look at it, I'll think there's something wrong with it.
Thanks for the advise :thumb2

Gearbox Rumble

Give me a call on 07774486554, like a lot of airhead owners it may just be the way they are, you need an experienced earhole to listen to it and diagnose whether a new set of bearings or a new set of earplugs are the answer, call me for an honest appraisal.
