Yup, that way you can 'invent' new words as required, whilst also making them very precise, obvious & formal descriptions of an item, or process - well, it works better if you are German

Hubschrauber = 'lift-screwer' (helicopter) is a very short one...

Having never really thought about about W's on speedometers, or heard of the the term Wegstreckenzahl, it took only a few minutes of googling (google.de) to find out - again it helps being a Kraut

And give babelfish etc major headaches. I use babelfish a bit for ebay.de items and sometimes have to guess where to split the single word up into manageable chunks.

The R100GS is usually W1186 - MPH/KPH

It must be a MPH speedo with such a high number
