I had been wondering how BMW could possibly have kept the all important badge so clean despite the intensive off-road treatment enjoyed by this Basic…

Then I realised… They built special "TankFlapz" to divert the mud, and removed them before the photos were taken of course!:blast

My blue unit came with them accidentally fitted to the fairing sides….

…. but with a few (easily removed) self tappers into the tank I can now use it off road without fear of tank-badge mud-coverage. Result!:D

I helped with the advertising shots for the very first R80G/S launch.

The pictures were of the bike all muddy on a mound of dirt... The advert promised you could travel on any road anywhere in the world..... The mound of dirt was in Woodfield studios, Woodfield grove, just off the Harrow road, and we had to rub the mud all over the bike with our hands :D

Nice collection on the flickr feed ;)

Ta. I need to get a few more 'Back in the day' photos up there, of cool LCs and fun FZRs, wild CRs and…

er…

Duct Tape 'n shoe-sole kneesliders on Superdreams:toungincheek

Haven't any.
I was a photographer back in the day, and the photographer doing the shoot was a mate of mine, Graham Ford, and he knew i had a BMW and called me up to come over to his studio as he had something "interesting". :D
