Everywhere I dont really want to be...
Well Ive been in the market for "something" as a next bike, perhaps future project bike...and Ive started to become interested in the old Airheads. Id love an R80 GSpd...but my budget just won't stretch that far at the mo. The R100's seem a good starting point...and Ive come across this...its the same amount that I have in my piggy bank...so what do you guys think ?

Since this would be my first airhead..I was wondering if there is anything that I should watch out for ? Looking around its seems to be quite a good deal...whatcha think ?

Also..Any good reading sites available for these models...I have an 1150 GSA & a 12C..and thought that this may make a good addition to the stable.

Its rather close (500Km) and is about 2K in old english money..and maybe a good starting point for a Paris Dakar replica sometime in the future.

...So how do the r100 ride compared with a (say) GSA...Th GSA is manageable ...but I wouldnt want to take it off-road really...I can't find a comparative weight for the R100GS...Are these bikes "a little" lighter...or am I just being stoooopid???
 
I would buy the bike
Ride it and try it = those bikes are considerably lighter than the GS1100 1150 but still not "light"
If you dont like it I will come and buy it off you and fetch it :thumb2
 
Oh that's easy

Watch out for an old beardy guy who's got a slight smell of wee around him. He'll fool you into thinking they are the best bike in the world and need nothing more than a screw driver and a hammer to fix one. Don't believe him, you will end up like the rest of us trying to work out what the rats nest of wiring does and what the hell is a bean can. And for gods sake don't get on the topic of oil cos these bloody things run on some gloop dug out of the ground and filtered through an old pair of socks.
Your best forgetting it and go get yerself a nice reliable 1200gs.
 
Not according to scout it's in Tachering in Deutschland and is registered there. Unless of course you have been in touch and been told different. Looks like a nice find and if in Londinium then even better.....

Very nice find and will definitely be an enjoyable experience if you go for it.

Well this is what Ive received by email this morning (translated with Bing)

Thank you for your interest! The bike is still for sale, I bought it in Germany and it's in an excellent condition. It has German papers, is never in any accidents be the engine teigt, perfect zustandt, it is Schechheftgepflegt and all papers are OK, and km are genuine. Now the bike with me in England is straight, you get can here and here test it if you want, but if not don't worry, because I could send it to your address.
Let me know which way you prefer.

As you rightly suspect opportunities like this very rarely come along and if they are too good to be true then they often turn out not to be and it's a scam. We see many adverts like this so you are right to be very wary!! Particularly as he says the bike is still registered in Germany.

Personally I would give up on this one but as you are in Switzerland I'm sure you will find another closer to home. Have a Look at Mobile.de you will find many on there.

I don't think I'd give up on it. Looks a good buy for someone. Do you know anyone in the SE 18 ( Plumstead) area that could go and check it out. I'd ask for more info from the vendor and see if his story sounds right. It may be that the chap has just moved to London and brought the bike with him......
 
Not cheap, no... then that's what all the "Classics" around here (Helvetica) are doing, prices through the proverbial ceiling...
 
I'm in Croydon, so not a million miles away from Plumstead if you get no other offers, I could try and get over there this week sometime.

Not technically minded but I could certainly check that the bike exists starts and runs without plooms of smoke. Also give you a bit of feedback on the seller (I usually look at them more than the bike).

Drop me a pm with the seller details (I don't mind contacting direct) if you want me to to take a look.

Does seem a little strange to me though.

Did a 20 min detour on the way back home this evening (city to east dulwich) to have a look..... it's certainly not parked on the road or front garden. The postcode leads to this house - an 'acupuncture clinic'

The Autoscout add with the bike that happens to be in England is a classic scam. They take your money and you never see a bike. The picture is a random picture of such a bike that they have found somewhere.

But if you are actually in England and you want to go and look at the bike, you will soon find that for some reason that won't be possible.

Just try to get an appointment to go view it and you'll see what I mean.
