Airheads..What to look out for...

I've sent a message saying I'm interested, but written in German, asking when the last service was and if it's possible to see it.

If his story doesn't match....

You know I really am touched by all of this response. Honestly I am.

..All I expected was a little advice...I now seem to have started an International search party...Who needs Interpol ?

I going to take a closer look at one of these Airheads this weekend...to see if it could fit the bill and Ill let you all know how its progressing.

Awfers...Ill try and meet you in Luzern on Saturday as in your PM. Whats your ETA ? I will PM /email if anything goes wrong (maybe SWMBO will come along)
...It'll be good to see you guys again...

theschoning - Ive sent you a PM...Thanks for the detour...

Ill keep you all posted.

Well this is what Ive received by email this morning (translated with Bing)

Thank you for your interest! The bike is still for sale, I bought it in Germany and it's in an excellent condition. It has German papers, is never in any accidents be the engine teigt, perfect zustandt, it is Schechheftgepflegt and all papers are OK, and km are genuine. Now the bike with me in England is straight, you get can here and here test it if you want, but if not don't worry, because I could send it to your address.
Let me know which way you prefer.

...Ive seen things like this...advertised in one country...but bike/car in another etc etc....:nenau:nenau

He has an given an address...with the post code SE18 1PR...

Having the bike in England could be good for me ???? I may have to come home this year (after 14 years living away...God has it been sooo long).

Why is he selling it in germany if the bike is in the UK ?

If he bought it from germany and hasn't registered it, it will have temporary export registration plates which can only be used for a month and have the date stamped on them. He'd soon get pulled up by the police if he was riding around with those on the bike.

I wouldn't part with any money as a deposit.

...and therein lies the question...

From the photos its still got German plates on it. When I "imported" my 12C here into Switzerland....I just rode it across the border and stuck it in the garage whilst I got all the paper work in hand. The bike never left the garage until the day it was registered & Insured. Maybe the same applies here as well? Perhaps he was trying to sell it in Germany and ran out of time before having to move to the UK ? I noticed that the price dropped from 3k Euros to 2450Euros...thats when I noticed it...

Time will tell....

The guy hasn't responded to my contact yet.. Early days though.

For Saturday, don't know, around 11ish at the dealer? By the time we get our arses out of bed and on the road (especially in this weather!). It's a 2.5 hour drive for us, so leaving 8:30ish. Does that work for you?

Can maybe grab a pizza somewhere afterwards for lunch?

Cheers,

Awfers

It has a Swiss or Austrian plate on it by the looks of things. I'd say Austrian 'cos it also has the vignetta stuck to the fork leg... and W in the plate would be Vienna (Wien).

Ok, he's replied with the same story, it's in England... He says he too is in England (gives a London address). He says I can come and test ride it if I want. Or, if there are no reservations on my part about buying it, he can send it to me.

Might be genuine? Sounds odd...

Flytoolow: Your call!!

I'll say it once more:

The Autoscout add with the bike that happens to be in England is a classic scam.

Forget about it, you will never see this bike unless you accidently bump into the real owner riding it.

Your right...Its a fake...Well we can all hope :blast. Im a bit pissed that I wasted mine & all your time on this

...He is in the telephone directory (192.com), no website...and the address is right..but on Google Streetview the shop is Closed (Alan John Product motorcycle spares (#47)).

Google street view is only approximate...you have to have a look down the street...and the only photos supplied were the ones on the advert...

OK, Call off the search party...case closed....

Sorry fellas..
