This may appear to be a stupid question. What is the best way to remove the baffle from the Akarpovic can? There seems to be a nut, but I can't seem to shift it with an ordinary spanner. I would be grateful for any advice.

Hi, bit of brute force tbh, I had a mate just steady the bike while I got some mole grips on the bugger. Shot out suddenly and I landed in a heap on the garage floor:o Give it some welly, it'll come, but don't move it from side to side to much or it will probably bend out of shape.

Worth the effort, sounds the dogs danglies:thumb2

Doh! just realised it was the nut you were referring to, rather than the can itself. Bit of releasing oil on it should do the trick and I used a socket spanner and although tight, it gave in in the end.

I have mine in and out on a regular basis and never found it a problem. :D

All you can see is what looks like a nut but in fact it's a bolt with a "nut" end. Personally I always used a socket and it's never been a problem. :thumb

It's the same on my BOS system, but, the first time I removed it I had to break a small blob of weld - are the Akros the same :nenau

Are you guys runnning the Akro's running the standard fuelling set up with the baffle in/out?

I'm toying with getting an Akro can and wouldn't mind knowing if youn feel any difference, again with the baffle in/out?

Ta.

Std fueling and it runs like a dream, baffle out naturally :thumb

In fact I fitted the std can back on today just to try it, loads more grunt low down with the Akrapovic.

But I am not very happy with the way that it is mounted, but my other thread about that somewhere:nenau

Thanks, sounds good. I'd seen the post on the mounting and was intrigued as I hadn't had the same probelm with my last akro can, albeit on a blade.

Don't think so, I know when I took mine out the first time it was straight forward and no resistence.

(sits back and waits for BTBR  )
I've never had mine out, I heard you could get in trouble with the police.....

ok, following on from all of this, I have an Akra fitted on the bike (got it from the local beemer dealer so it must be the official version so to speak), does it have a removable baffle and if so what do I have to do to get at it please (I'm not very technical, so please talk to me like I'm a 10 yr old, pictures are particularly helpful).....:o

For a picture look here, very last picture: http://r1200gs.info/misc/ModelChanges.html

On the far right side, just below the outlet you can see the bolt you have to remove. If I remember correctly a 7mm wrench was a bit loose and I then used a fitting inch wrench, YMMV.

In my case there was a small weld spot holding the bolt in place. You will have to break that weld. As an alternative you could use a file to remove most part of it before using your wrench on the nut.

It's a normal thread, so turning counter-clockwise will loosen the bolt.

Hope this helps.
